Album Notes
As A People is Adam Yas (vox, rhythm guitar), Nate Link (lead guitar), Nigel Sussman (bass), and Tim Way (drums). Inspired by their own diverse musical tastes(Mike Patton, Talking Heads, Grateful Dead, Beck), the band set out to create a mutant form of rock music in 2006. After 2 years in and around the Bay Area music scene, the band entered a Berkeley, CA. studio in the summer of 2008 to purge the material they had been performing since their inception. The result is Carpet Bomb Ballet, a 13-song baptism by fire.

Sometimes differing influences within a band can clash and dissipate, leaving behind music that is unintentionally jagged or distractingly multidirectional. Conversely, the melding of different styles can also produce a sound that works, while usually having the advantage of being wonderfully hard to pinpoint or categorize. The latter is clearly the case with this dual-guitar group from the Bay Area, and their debut is solid proof that a healthy smattering of varied sounds and approaches can indeed yield some strong results. The 13 tracks here flirt with chaos, but pull back just enough to maintain the momentum without going over the edge. The songs are strong with the melodies, precise with the guitars, and feature a rhythm section that keeps it thick and steady in the center. The method behind the vocals is ever-changing, they don't shy away from catchy complexity, and a lot of the songs hover around the six-minute mark. This one's filled to the brim.
