ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Ashen Reign is One Vision, One Purpose, One Goal. Music played with emotion, passion and integrity.

What do you get when you take the smooth vocals over top heavy music? The ground work for Ashen Reign. “I have always loved smooth vocals over top heavy, hard-hitting music. Not mainstream type pop vocals, but an easy calming voice contrasting the metal mayhem underneath. I understand this is a trend out of sync with most of today's metal music but I've always taken my own path anyway.”

Ashen Reign is a one-man metal act hailing from Atlanta GA, USA where Brent McDaniel is the force behind the music performing all instruments, mixing, and engineering. The musical direction can be described as modern, dark and brooding. Influenced by bands like Falconer and Porcupine Tree, throw in a pinch of Opeth and Paul Gilbert and you have the basic influences that inspired the birth of Ashen Reign.

Brent McDaniel wants to beat the odds and show that a one-man band can create great music. Nothing more, nothing less. Being a self taught musician across guitar, bass, keys, vocals and drums then self taught recording, mixing and engineering from the ground up, there are about a million barriers to realizing this goal. But none of that matters if the music reaches the ears of one person who simply enjoys the tunes.

"With a laid-back gothic rock meets power metal approach to music, Ashen Reign’s latest album is a unique take on styles that’s enjoyable to listen to and shows some serious instrumental skill from band mastermind Brent McDaniel."
xFiruath - Metal Underground

“If you're looking for a power metal album that isn't cheesy, but instead powerful, emotional, and technically stunning, An Angels Burden should prove to be one of the year's best. 4 stars are well-deserved for this terrific album. Excellent job”
J-man - Metal Music Archives and Sea of Tranquility

"...while appearing to take a lot of inspiration from European power metal, Ashen Reign fortunately take the American approach to power metal which is much less marked by cheesiness and much more true to its rock and metal roots. This is a different power metal release to be sure, and I think that it will appeal to many fans of the genre."
- Time Signature, Metal Music Archives

"I like this album because it’s different. When someone says power metal to me I usually expect either the rougher guitar driven style of USPM acts of the keyboard laden EuroPM style, while this really falls somewhere else...I highly recommend An Angels Burden to anyone looking for an atypical take on the power metal genre." -- Adam Gardiner, Heavy Metal Haven
