Kaya Sthairyam is used as a preparation for the various meditation techniques of Dharana (concentration). When the body is restless, the mind follow suit. Until the student can cultivate effortless steadiness of the physical body, Dharana will have limited benefits. But, with practice of Kaya Sthairyam, one can gradually achieve physical immobility for long periods of time, thereby deepening the experience of meditation.
For full mastery, all 12 stages of Kaya Sthairyam are practiced for at least one hour of stillness. But the beginning student is advised to make a realistic effort and adopt the stages gradually. Two guided practices (Tracks 1 & 2) lead the student systematically and enjoyably through the first 6 stages of Kaya Sthairyam.
For best results, practice in a comfortable, relaxed, upright position with adequate support and cushioning.

Satyananda Yoga Nidra® from SATYANANDA YOGA®, combining the ancient Tantric tradition of Nyasa with modern research on the corticomotor pathways of the brain, is a deeply effective guided relaxation. The eight stages on this recording release not only physical tensions but mental and emotional ones as well.
Two stages of this Yoga Nidra relate to sankalpa, a Sanskrit term loosely translated as “resolve.” A sankalpa is a short, positive phrase, in the present or future tense, which describes your Self’s deepest wish. Examples include:
“I will awaken my spiritual potential”
“I am healthy”
“I will be more aware”
A sankalpa is meant to be kept until it manifests, so take care in choosing one. If you do not have a sankalpa, use the time devoted to it in the yoga nidra to think of one which may be appropriate in the future.
