Album Notes
Atria, a Los Angeles based jazz quintet, was formed in Summer, 2000. The plan was to get together, play some standards, and see what happens - but mostly just to stretch out and have some fun. But it was clear from the start that this was something special - much more than just the sum of its parts. Each player brings a unique history of style and influnce, that work together to form an environment of creativity and exploration.

It's a jazz bag, but many other styles filter in; traditional latin styles, latin jazz, cool, modal, fusion, funk, bebop, straight ahead, etc.

In keeping with the ideals of jazz tradition, production on this CD has been kept to the bare minimum. No tricks or punch-ins, just an honest recording of original tunes. The music reaches to find and express a new voice - one of angular melodies, sophisticated rhythms, and rich, colorful harmonies.

Tony Bray - Tenor, Soprano
Jeff Fields - Trumpet, Flugelhorn
Paul Luis - Guitar
Michael Barrett - Bass
Don Palmer - Drums

Great music, great production
Great CD guys! I've known MIchael Barrett since he was a freshman in college and throughout the years he's only gotten better and better. I'm happy to hear him in the traditional jazz context. Great songwriting and arrangements. Let me know when the next one is released!

Bob Maddelena would be proud, Michael!

It's a jazz bag, but there are many other styles that filter in; traditional latin styles, latin jazz, cool, modal, fusion, funk, hip hop, bebop, straight ahead, etc.

Maybe I'm a jazz fan or what, but just from listening to the streaming links I'm already a fan of these people. A real sense of place and some very respectable musicianship. Well done, and again, well done. I'll be keeping an eye out.
