Album Notes
Sailboats took me less than an hour to write. The inspiration just kept coming, and I couldn't stop. Every time I wrote a line, I would laugh to myself because it was truly fun to write and I couldn't get enough of it. It was the first song I ever wrote with a guitar, and it's incredibly special to me. I can still picture myself sitting on the floor that night with all of my guitar books, journals, and pens spread out around me. I love working surrounded by music materials and empty spirals. It really seems to open everything up. When the inspiration starts coming, I feel like I can fill every single page, and the night I wrote Sailboats was no different.
The story behind Sailboats was a long one. I really liked this boy, and we could spend hours on the phone talking. Neither of us had a car and so we did what we could over the phone. It was my first real crush, and it was potent at the time. He used to talk about marrying me, and we decided that we were going to live on a sailboat for a year before we settled down to have a family. Like most first relationships, it ended, but we're still friends and occasionally talk. I hope that someday I'll be able to dedicate this to a boy I'm madly in love with. On a side note, I might still be a little infatuated with the idea of living on a sailboat for a while...
