ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Singer-songwriter Aven is one-half of the acoustic duo The Cages (with Clayton Cages), formerly on Capitol Records, who released the critically acclaimed album Hometown in 1992. As part of The Cages, Aven appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, TNN's Crook & Chase, Nashville Now, CMT, MTV, and
VH-1. His work with The Cages is described by the Seattle Rocket as "beautiful, both loud and delicate, witty and emotional in a way acoustic bands are rarely captured. And those harmonies...soaring...are something special..." Hometown spawned four Top 40 Triple A singles, including Aven's self-penned Nameless Faces which reached number 5 on the charts.

After rigorous touring and numerous television appearances, The Cages took several years hiatus from the road tending to the demands of parenthood. For Aven this break gave way to a period of self-reflection and prolific songwriting. In 1995, with a firm offer in hand to record at singer-songwriter Tammy Wynette's former studio, Aven moved from Los Angeles to Nashville. Aven returned to L.A. a year later and released Stranger's Face in 1997 under the pseudo name Gnat King Kong. He reunited with The Cages in 1998 to record the long-awaited independent release Wave of Light which was completed in late 1999. This was followed by Aven's 2001 self-released albums Multivitaman and Songs for the Whole Damn Family (also under the alias Gnat King Kong.) While continuing his work with
The Cages, Aven is now touring in support of his own solo projects, most recently Anthology, a collection of works spanning a decade from 1992-present.

Originally from Birmingham, Alabama currently residing in Los Angeles, Aven is enchanting audiences with his original brand of folk/pop melodies.
His trademark fingerpicking style creates lush, intricate rhythms, haunting melodies,
and toe-tapping tunes atop witty, whimsical songs that sometimes spring from a tradition you swear you've heard...with an unusual twist. Praised for his guitar work, Aven is also a classically trained jazz musician, accomplished on saxophone, flute, oboe and harmonica. Having ranked first in the state in saxophone and oboe during his senior year in high school, followed by an oboe scholarship to the University of Alabama, Aven's musical talents soon gained some well-deserved recognition. His musical diversity stems in part from a varied musical career as a highly sought after session player and background vocalist. In addition, Aven has toured the world as saxophonist for Peabo Bryson and has also served such notable artists as Gary Morris, The Temptations, The Four Tops, The Drifters, and The Neville Brothers.

These two performed at my High School in LA in 1992(Grant High) my Senior Year. They were amazing.....I do not think most people were even paying attention...I bought the CD that day....still have it. (Hometown)
Thanks for performing at a high school while your tour was getting ready to start....
