AYSEGUL KUS DURAKOGLU, pianist
Aysegul Kus Durakoglu is a performer with versatile interest and repertoire that extends from earliest to latest styles in the classical and world music areas. Her main interest in the classical repertoire lies behind the scores of Claude Debussy’s piano music. Since she completed her Ph. D. dissertation on the contrapuntal and rhythmic structures of Debussy’s Etudes, she has presented many lecture-recitals on the composers’ works.
Ms. Durakoglu has concertized as soloist and chamber musician nationally and internationally. She was featured as soloist in the International Istanbul Music Festival with James Galway; Musical Intersections and International Niagara Chamber Music Festival in Canada; and new music festivals in Russia and Europe. She has appeared with major orchestras in her home country, Turkey and has been featured in various festivals, radio and television programs. In the States, she has performed at Merkin Concert Hall, Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie, Kay Playhouse, Bruno Walter Auditorium at Lincoln Center in New York; Jan Popper Theater and Hancock Auditorium in Los Angeles; World Bank, and Anderson House Concert Series in Washington DC; Tsai Performing Arts Center in Boston; Assembly Hall in Chicago. She was also featured on the radio programs like the “Listening Room” on WQXR and “Concert Grands” in New York.
Aysegul Kus Durakoglu began her musical life in Istanbul and completed her Bachelor’s degree in Istanbul Conservatory. She received her Master’s from the Juilliard School and a Ph.D. degree with notable distinction at the New York University where she also served on the piano faculty. Her teachers included Adele Marcus, Gyorgy Sandor, and Gregory Haimovsky. As a member of the NYU Chamber Music Ensemble, she won the NYU’s Chamber Music Special Award for her contribution and leadership. Aysegul Kus Durakoglu is currently serves on the full-time faculty of the Music and Technology Department at the Stevens Institute of Technology where she has been teaching music history, also concertizing with her ensemble, Musica Mundana, and maintains her private teaching studio, Studio di Musica, in Hoboken, New Jersey.
