by B3

Smoky mellow classic organ trio - but with sax instead of guitar - in loose and gritty laid-back inter-active grooves on seven pieces recorded live straight to DAT – rewards plenty of late-night listening.

Album Notes
Three west-coast Canadian guys.

Bob Murphy has a keyboard career stretching from Chuck Berry and Dusty Springfield all the way to Freddy Hubbard and Kenny Wheeler with stops for Henry Mancini and Gil Evans. Seasoned and respected pianist , with an immediately recognizable personal style, on this gig he plays Hammonf B3.

Buff Allen plays drums with a liquid fluency and positive attitude that’s placed him happily with pianists like Hank Jones, Teddy Wilson and Joanne Brackeen, and with guitarists Ed Bickert, Lenny Breau, and Pat Coleman. Great player, great listener.

Bill Runge, stalwart of Powder Blues, VEJI, and the Hard Rubber Orchestra, is a busy writer, arranger, and multi-instrumentalist session player with countless credits on albums, themes, jingles and movie soundtracks. Here he sticks to tenor and soprano sax.

Three guys named Bob, Buff and Bill, in a trio based around the famous Hammond sound.

Naturally, they called the band B-3.
