Lights Are Getting Low

by Baby Grand

The band takes the basic blueprint of pop masters like Belle & Sebastian (especially when Isobel was in the band and sang) and Camera Obscura. Vocalist Geri White has the gentlest pipes this side of Isobel Campbell.

Album Notes
Sacramento, California’s Baby Grand has existed in one incarnation or another for many years, formed from the ashes of a pop trio whose songs regularly featured serial killers, car accidents and murderous robots. Moving on to happier subjects, the band's debut album "Spectrum" was released in 2002.
"Coming True," the long overdue follow-up to "Spectrum," has seen the band undergo several line-up and instrumentation changes. It's still smart, sophisticated pop, but with a much bigger yet softer sound - like spring rain falling through the trees - with shades of Belle & Sebastian, Birdie and Camera Obscura.

Now, the brand new "Lights Are Getting Low" EP picks up where "Coming True" left off, while elevating the band to a new level with lush strings and vibrant horns.

My favorite local band by far
I've loved this band since the first time I saw and heard them in the basement of the Eastern Star Temple in Sac. It's Christmas for me when they put out new material. I'm so confident in this band I don't even wonder if it's going to be good. I love the addition of viola, and the horns are great. Actually all of the musicians are to be commended. Music is something that I let into my heart, and for that reason I'm picky about what I listen to. This album handles you with kid gloves. Superficially pleasing while anchored in a sweet sincerity. It's BABY GRAND!
