ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Domino Buzz is a cd of music-poetry by Joe Balaz. It is comprised of selections that mix his writing with music that stems from psychedelic, funk, new age, jazz and rock influences. Balaz’s wry and pondering philosophy touches upon various subjects such as black holes, microbes on meteors, the Big Bang Theory, new love, lost love, the homeless, self-evaluation, coconut logic, reptilian gigolos, an emotional parallel to a Roman emperor and a here and now attitude of life. Get buzzed now and enjoy the journey.

Joe Balaz has been published nationally and internationally. His poetry, concrete poetry (visual poetry) and music-poetry have been the subject matter of numerous articles and scholarly papers. His work has received academic acclaim while still appealing to the everyday consciousness of the average person on the street. Balaz’s performance poetry presentations incorporating music, lighting and theatrical settings, have made him a much sought after public reader.

Balaz worked closely on Domino Buzz with artist and composer Peter Chamberlain. Additional music input on the cd was augmented by Simeon Slovacek, Chuck Souza, Peter Kealoha, Sam Henderson, Greg Kekipi and Mary Ellen Derwis.

Wonderful!
Domino Buzz is a wonderful cd. The author Balaz has an overview and insight akin to a street-wise Tibetan monk. Very philosophical and yet real. Imagine yourself sitting around a campfire listening to a good storyteller. This cd offers worthwhile messages. Listen to it.

What I like about this cd is that it has a universal feel to it. The poems are all different and seem to be more upbeat in nature. The few poems that appear to be negative at first still end up with a point of view that is positive. An example of this is the poem Isolated Word that talks about homeless people. In its sad description of the situation it ends with a thought on how to make it better. The whole cd is definitely worth listening to. It will make you think.

Domino Buzz hits the heart
Damn you Joe Balaz!! You've broken my heart again!! But seriously, "In the Alley" is a powerful poem about moving on when a relationship is over. The other poems in the cd are interesting as well in their music and subject diversity. Well done.

Cool stuff. What strikes me is that the poems mesh nicely with the music, sort of like song compositions. Domino Buzz is a good example of what can be done in spoken word with a little inventive thinking.

Domino Buzz: an eccentric glimpse of the innate human mindset.
Through the use of assonance, consonance, internal rhyme, onomatopoeia, and repetition, Joe Balaz boldly delivers his stylized message in Domino Buzz. Balaz is a realist and within each poem a slice of life can be revealed. Beautifully interlaced with the spoken word, the instrumentals enhance the euphony and powerful imagery of this recording. Domino Buzz is an exceptional collection of musical-poetry relating to human nature in its purest form.

The best spoken word recording I've heard in Ohio for years.
"Domino Buzz" nails it. Poetically original and offbeat.

Fantastic!
Joe has such a unique and thought provoking way of presenting poetry. He is truly unique in his style. He has a magical way of pulling together poetry, thought, reason, sound and music to create a truly artistic and realistic composition. I especially enjoy "In the Alley" which parallels bowling to a lost relationship and love. Also, "Between Sanity and the Moon" is an awesome expression of how the moon affects human nature. "Domino Buzz" is a collection of great artistic concrete poetry that is very thought provoking and interesting.

Kudos to you Joe!

It is a pleasure to hear poetry that is intelligent while still being able to be on the cutting edge. "Domino Buzz" fits the genre of poetry set to music like a glove. More poets should try to push the envelope like this cd does. This kind of artistic combination can make good poetry better. Joe Balaz has come up with a synergy that is very good.

Insightful. Edgy. At times spiritual. There's a lot going on within this cd. It is very thought provoking. Some of the pondering messages just knock me out.
