Modeled after the great J.J. Johnson and Kai Winding group, with a hint of the Basie Band, and our own unique stamp. We guarantee you haven't heard a sound like this since Jay & Kai over fifty years ago! Here is a list of the personnel:
Leader, trombone, flute, & percussion: Dave Chamberlain
Trombones: Bruce Eidem, Charley Gordon, Nate Mayland, Mike Lormond, Matt McDonald, Bob Suttmann
Bass trombones: Max Seigel and Dale Turk
Piano: Kenny Ascher
Bass: Dick Sarpola
Drums: Mike Campenni
Congas & cowbells: Chembo Corniel

Every fourth blue moon somebody creates a sound that demands attention. Such is the case with Dave Chamberlain's "Band of Bones," a debut CD featuring 14 wonderfully inventive and swinging songs. With eight trombones and a sensational rhythm section, "Band of Bones" is both percussive, rhythmic, and just plain fun!

Great arrangements by JJ, Wayne Andre, Dick Lieb, as well as Nate Mayland, Bob Suttmann, James Zeller, and Dave Chamberlaon. Add to that swinging originals by Bill Whited (Bonin') and Kenny Ascher (Love Again). Band of Bones includes standards like Stardust, It's Allright with Me, Getting Sentimental over You, and Girl from Ipanema as well as jazz classics like Night in Tunisia, Bolivia, and the Latin-jazz chestnut El Manisero (Peanut Vender.)

enjoy that J & K sound
There is definitely a lot of the Jay and Kai sound in this music. Several arrangements used by J & K are played on this album. The leader Dave Chamberlain is a trombonist and flute player. It is his flute solos that make the sound somewhat unique. The ensemble playing by the 8 person trombone section is well done. Some of the trombone solos don't quite make the changes in some places, but its not often enough to be critical. I wish that the photos of the various trombone players were labeled with their names. I also like Peanut Vendor at a little faster tempo. But dig 3 charts by J.J., two by Wayne Andre, one by Dick Lieb and Kai's arrangement of It's Allright with Me to kick off the CD. There is an uncredited chart on the old Basie tune-Segue in C, and a good arrangement by James Zeller of Cedar Walton's Bolivia and another good one by Nate Mayland on Dear Old Stockholm
