Album Notes

"Banooba's Travels" is the first studio release by Banooba. We worked very hard on this album and have put out an incredible album that we are very proud of. Don't take our word for it... go check it out for yourself!!

We had the pleasure of having some really great musicians lay down some horn and hammond organ tracks. These musicians include:

-Rob Somerville - Tenor Sax (DEEP BANANA BLACKOUT)
-Donnie Celenza - B3 hammond organ
-Jeff Sheloff - Tenor Sax

BANOOBA, formerly known as THE PROJECT, is an original funk rock band from NY. Each member brings their own unique influence into the groove and adds to the show. Live shows prove to be energetic and spontaneous, and the band is known for playing a impressive live set guaranteed to get you in the partying groove. You never know when you might find Kevin Kershko playing guitar with his teeth, Pete standing up to play the drums or Kevin Torres playing a guitar solo with a drumstick. Ryan and Kevin Sloan are constantly grooving, providing energy for the band and the crowd. As for the rest, come down to see it for yourself!

Banooba has shared the stage with some nationally renowned acts such as:
-The Bomb Squad
-Big Fuzz
-Deep Banana Blackout
-The Zen Tricksters
-Sam Kininger (Soulive)
-Oteil Burbridge and the Peacemakers (Bassist for the Allman Brothers).
-Yohimbe Brothers (featuring DJ Logic and Vernon Reid of Living Colour)

You can also catch Rob Somerville of Deep Banana Blackout playing tenor sax on few tracks of "Banooba's Travels."

"There aren't too many young bands out there who can combine solid, original songwriting with tight execution and the ability to stretch without noodling. 'Banooba' does just this. It's refreshing! High energy, bumpin' grooves, solid vocals, and hip hooks for your booty-shakin' pleasure!"
-Bryan Smith, Trombone, Deep Banana Blackout 2004

"...These guys groove like it's their last day on earth, with irresistable songs and wicked musicianship..."
-Good Time Magazine, Dan Brown, January 2004

Something big.
Basically, this CD and this band is definetly going somewhere. Somewhere good. I wouldn't be suprised to see them at Bonnaroo within a couple years, if they continued performing, and after they secure a large fanbase.

When I first heard the band name "Banooba", I thought 'What the fuck?'...
The name didn't really impress me. However, on a whim, I decided to listen to it, because of its bizarre name. I was blown away by the fact that it was, in fact, good.

Hah. Score one for Banooba.

"Banooba's Travels": Buy it or else
Original funk, rock, reggae. Great music, tremendous vocals, really tight band. Buy the CD and see the band at a small club while you can. Otherwise you'll be paying $75 to see them at some huge venue later.

The Best!
Banooba is the best new band I've heard in a LONG time!
There's not a bad track on this CD, in fact, every song is GREAT! And so many different styles, but all unmistakably Banooba. "Sinora", No Anesthesia", "Chicken Wings", and "Against The Grain" are probably my favorites, but they're ALL killer songs!
I'm really glad I found you guys, and I'm heading over to buy "Nomads...." right now!
Thanks for the great music, guys!

Wow, I can't believe I found you! We can't stop playing the CD. My 8 year old has Sinora on repeat. Finally, after the 4th time, I insisted that we move on. I brought Travels with me to a party and one guest insisted on hearing the beginning because he had missed the first few songs and wanted to "keep it going". I am really looking forward to seeing you live. I hope you will make it out west to Portland Oregon sometime soon. In the meantime, I will continue to spread the word.

This CD is amazing. The whole thing is awesome and there's not one song on it that i skip over.. it plays through every time. it's possibly one of the best investments i've ever made :)

Stop the presses: Long Island can get funky. This strip of land, musically much maligned, isn’t the sole domain of old fashioned, guitar heavy bands any longer. As fresh and as welcome as the early spring temperatures, Banooba (formerly known as The Project) breezes in with “Banooba’s Travels” - and with only this debut release under their belts, Banooba joins Maryland’s All Mighty Senators and New York’s Lettuce as the finest funky rock bands on the east coast.

Banooba isn’t so much a jam band as it is a strong rock band with heavy funk overtones. Vocalist Ryan O’Connor’s superb singing hints of influences from everyone such Blood Sweat and Tears’ David Clayton Thomas to Spin Doctors’ Chris Barron, but like all the group’s members – bassist Kevin Sloan, guitarists Kevin Kershko and Kevin Torres and drummer Pete Cunningham – he uses his influences to forge an original, upbeat sound instead of cloning other jam-type groups. “Sinora” and “Wen” sound like legitimate hit records, loaded with lilting vocals and tight, raucous, funky playing.

Unlike the tunes of many such groups, many of the cuts here aren’t lengthy guitar explorations but perfect as songs first and foremost; there isn’t a throwaway cut on the entire disc. “No Anesthesia” is so funky it might cause many an impromptu dance party, while “Crazy Cab Driver” and “Chicken Wings” are pure horn driven fun. The rhythm section and guitar playing is expert, the recording (done at Vu Du Studios, naturally) is major league, and the overall package is perfectly realized.

This disc is listed in our Demolition column only because it has yet to receive traditional distribution, but that’s a foregone conclusion.

Delicious funktastic escapism...
These guys wake up da funk like no other. I first became smitten with the band that is Banooba months ago...I would cruise by their webpages and click and listen...and dance in my uncomfortable computer chair listening to No Anesthesia over and over again. I saw them live at Jones Beach and fell even deeper. I finally kicked my own ass and ordered a CD. Best thing I've done yet. They RULE! Every song rocks my world in 40,000 different colors. Fun to sing to in the car too. what, WHAT? Chicken wings with extra sauce? HELL YEAH! The melodious, funky, sound sensations of Banooba taste sweet on my tongue, reminiscent of so many other guilty pleasures...like a gourmet chocolate truffle, the sinfully sweet flavor of Banooba will stay with me for quite some time. And I will always want more.

I think Banooba's Travels is absolutely amazing! The guitars are insane, even just the rhythms, and everything is so catchy and wonderfully upbeat. I don't pretend to be this huge expert on music, but I do know what I like, and in this case love. I hate to sound gushing with love, but the cd just excites me, and already 5 of my friends, who may place orders soon. It reminds me of Incubus and Dave Matthews at the same time, which I didn't even think was possible. But it's so unique i'd just say it's above these comparisons, except for the volume produced by these other bands. From the triplet (or something?) guitar rhythms in 'make things right' to horns in 'no anthesia' and other songs to the guitar duet-if-you-will in chicken wings, to everything else, each song has something unique and wonderful about it. I really hope to make it up to a show. I also truly appreciate the speedy delivery, and the generosity and helpfulness in getting the order back to me. I'll definitely be wearing the shirt to spread the love. I don't mean to waste your time with an excessively long review, but I just wanted to let you know how much I have already enjoyed the cd in just a few days. Keep doing exactly what it is you guys are! Thanks for everything!

Rocks my socks!
The guys in Banooba are great and their music is just fun. "Chicken wings with extra sauce" is one of my favorites to listen to in the car, although it was "No anaesthesia" that got me hooked to buy the CD. I bought the CD thinking one or two songs would be good, but I honestly can't think of one song on here that I don't like. I recommend this CD to anyone and everyone.
