ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
This album has become a classic in many households. It captures the heart of the Christmas season with the Barra MacNeils.

You will find seasonal favourites and traditional numbers along with a winter song from the late Dermot O' Reilly of the Newfoundland based band "Ryan's Fancy".

There are some very interesting arrangements of the old and well-known favourites. (Carol of the Bells, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, O Holy Night).

Some gaelic repertoire is found here on Ann am Baile Ri' oghail Dhaibhidh (Once in Royal David's City) and Taladh Chriosda (Christ Child Lullaby).
The late Tommy Makem graciously added the beautiful classic recitation "Singing In The Streets". His enchanting story-telling is a gift that will live on forever.

Gatherings and families are a big part of the MacNeils' tradition. They try to capture a bit for the listener so they too can be there in spirit.

The album is well paced and the focus of course, is the season of Christmas. The album finishes with the Robbie Burns classic, Auld Lang Syne featuring Lucy's signature vocal performance.
