ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
CarolAnn Barrows is so honored to have been invited by Dr. Timuçin Çevikoğlu, a Turkish sacred music scholar, to be the first person to ever sing the most beloved, 500-year-old epic poem –the Mevlidi Sherif– in English. This is the story of the Prophet Muhammad, PBUH, and is precious to Muslims all over the world.

Composer Taylor Kroff is so grateful for the opportunity to honor the Islamic faith through music. Composing this symphony has been a tremendous and uplifting experience.

Our heartfelt prayer is for this music to serve to awaken people of all faiths to the sacred musical treasures of Islam and that it brings peace where there is ignorance, fear and strife.
It is only when we understand the stories of another culture that we can truly embrace their deeply held values. Then we naturally discover the common threads of peace, harmony and goodwill that weave their way through all of our stories.

History of Mevlidi Sherif
There have been countless wonderful things said in the name of the Prophet Muhammad, PBUH. There have also been thousands of books written about him. However, none of these human acts of praise have taken a place in people’s hearts and minds as much as the Mevlidi Sherif (The Prophet Muhammad’s Nativity), written by Süleyman Çelebi in 1407.

About CarolAnn Barrows
From a very young age CarolAnn enchanted audiences with her crystal clear singing voice and grace-filled artistry. Appreciative audiences of up to 20,000 in Seattle’s most prestigious performance venues — including The Paramount, The Fifth Avenue, McCaw Hall Opera House, The Intiman Theater, and The Key Arena – took delight in her healing musical gifts to rave reviews. With six albums to her credit, CarolAnn’s music is infused with sacred chant, Classical, Celtic and folk influences to create a musical embrace of peace.
