ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Both Sides Now is a musical collaboration between friends bassist Bill Urmson and drummer Jerry Kalaf. Jerry and I can also be heard on a previous release called Stretch with bassist Carl Sealove.

For this album we decided to record four favorite standards of mine with improvisational pieces. Joni Mitchell’s song, Both Sides Now, gave us the idea of mixing two styles of music, popular and improv.

The recording was played live with no over dubs, instead using guitar loops. We included friend and guest musician, pianist Rich Eames to sit in on our version of the standard Yesterdays.

It was a great addition having friends Urmson fly in from Boston to join us for five days of recording and Eames traveling even further, driving the 405 North to the Valley.
