The Early Years is a single CD with 20 songs, that is a compliation of Barry Greenfields two LP's (Blue Sky, 1973, and Sanctuary, 1975). Blue Sky was the first album produced by David M. Kershenbaum. David soon became America's biggest record producer of the next 20 years. He produced Dylan, Joe Jackson, Joan Baez, Supertramp, and dozens more.
Barry Greenfield was signed to the prestigious RCA Elite label, where he was being groomed to be a part of a new musical genre, the Singer/Songwriter. Arrangements for the LP were done by the legendary Jimmy Haskell. The band were all musical heavy weights. Larry Carlton (Steely Dan), Larry Mahoberac (Frank Sinatra), Jim Gordon (Derek and the Dominoes) and Joe Osborne (Simon and Garfunkel) made the core. The LP contained two number 1 songs; New York is closed tonight, and Sweet America. The first 10 songs on the Early Years album are pulled from Blue Sky. Digitally remastered, and sounding as fresh today as when they were recorded in Elvis' studio in Hollywood.
Barry Greenfield's second LP was Sanctuary. Recorded in his hometown (Vancouver) at Heart's legendary Mushroom Studios. It contains the number 1 smash, Canada Sky, and features the cream of Vancouvers 1970's session players. Terry Frewer (Guitars), Durris Maxwell (Drums), Robbie King (Keyboards), Doug Edwards (Bass). Like Blue Sky, Sanctuary has been digitally remastered. This process has added new life to the tracks found here.
The Early Years is a wonderful journey for the listener. It transports them to a time when songwriting mattered. When bands had soul, and honesty. The Early Years contains the best of the L.A. 70's sound, and the finest of Canada's contribution to this wonderful time in music. The lessons learned by Barry Greenfield and his fellow musicians were a result of the wonderful British invasion, and fledgling recording studios that were coming to life all over North America. The success of The Early Years is due to strong songwriting, and perhaps some of the greatest musicians that have ever recorded music. The Early Years contains no computers, no auto tuning. Just soulful lyrics, and great performances.
Barry Greenfield made 2 successful LP's in the 1970's, then left the music business to pursue other adventures.
