ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Important note (1): this is a 2-disc CD & DVD collection!!

Both the CD and the DVD are from the same recording session (2 live shows). Some tracks overlap - but there are tracks on the CD that are not on the DVD and vice-versa. The running time of the DVD is 65 minutes! You can view a trailer for the DVD on YouTube - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=71n3HkS6jpw

Important note (2): this is a soft sleeve release, so make sure to choose the "NO PLASTIC option." There is no plastic case with this release so you're entitled to profit from the cheaper shipping option.

Barry wrote a series of background blogs on all the songs on the DVD. You can find his blogs here; www.barrymccabe.com/blog. Each blog also links to a YouTube clip, so you can actually watch the song as well. The first blog is May 23, 2014.

There is also a Facebook page set up especially for Troubadour. If you wish to interact with Barry (ask questions, etc.) you can do so via this page. You can find it here; https://www.facebook.com/troubadourbarrymccabe
Don't forget to ' like' the page while you're there!

"I have to say there is a maturity and a richness to Barry's voice now that gives the songs a strength and a 'truth' that is stamped deep into the performances...that makes them REAL...and all coming from an artist that knows exactly where he is, and what he is, in relation to his art" - PJ Curtis

Some words from Barry:

It is a real thrill to finally get to record an album of acoustic music. I've been meaning to do it for years. The funny thing is I'm only returning some of these songs to their original state because I often write my songs on an acoustic guitar. I decided to include some songs from other writers too because they are songs that have touched me in some way over the years.

I sincerely hope you get as much pleasure listening to them as I got from singing and playing them and as always, I am truly grateful for the opportunities life has presented me with through the medium called ‘music'.

"You don't make music...music finds you. Your job is to practice to get yourself ready."

A Great Listen
As with the previous reviewer, I've been listening to Barry's music for years. I would suspect that most of his listeners were waiting a long time for this album. Actually any Barry McCabe album is a welcome surprise, but this album being both "live and acoustic" was special.

There are many live albums out there and far too many miss the mark. Usually it's because of poor recording but more than anything it's because you realize that you're not part of the "event". Not so, with this album. Sit back, close your eyes, perhaps pour a drink, and become part of the group. You know how you feel when you leave a live concert and you walk away feeling that you had a great time. This is the same feeling. Great music ... and a good time.

It doesn't get better than this
Barry McCabe is an artist I have been following for many years now. Through the Albatross years and the BMC Band and the solo Barry McCabe years I have bought all his music either digitally or hard copy CD. Mr. McCabe has the ability to play a mean guitar and sing heart rending tones all in the space of a song or two. The talent to both have a great voice and play great guitar is just amazing.
I've always said that if you want to find the true measure of an artist you need to catch him in an acoustic setting. This package captures that. Both the CD and the DVD capture Barry in the acoustic setting ( with friends) and we see and hear great mainly acoustic versions of some of Barry's best tunes. Personal highlights for me are ,The Peace Within and Bye Bye Johnny. Barry's songwriting and interpretation of others tunes are also highlights for me. Honest and soulful are two words that I would use to describe this package.
And a package it is! The CD comes with a DVD that covers some of the same material as the CD, but there are variances and differences. It's like getting two CDs for the price of one.
I rank this CD with the monumental 'The Peace Within' which is my favourite CD by this artist. Troubadour is a must get CD if you are a fan of Barry McCabe. If you are new to his music this CD will give you a great overview and feel for who and what Barry McCabe is.
It's well recommended and I give it 5 of 5 stars.

Great Music
If you're interested in great music in a live setting, this is for you. .... and no, the name is the same but I'm not the artist. I'm a long time fan of Barry's music and an acoustic album was in my opinion a long time coming. It was well worth the wait. I purchased the digital copy for instant gratification. If it was possible, I'd be wearing out the grooves.
Sit down in a comfortable chair, close your eyes and listen. Perhaps pretend that you were there ... I wish I was.
