Summer of Cello

by Barry Phillips

A cello ensemble tribute to songs of the 60’s. There is only cello on this recording - from 2 to 16 on each song. Not a classical approach, but as if the cellos think they are a rock band ... ... and they DO think that anyway.
Genre: Rock: Instrumental Rock

Thanks to all the original writers and bands - this music has meant so much to me!

I play three different cellos on this recording - a 1850’s Mittenwald lion’s head cello,
a sympathetic cello made for me in Kolkata by Krishna Mondal 2008 (5 playing, 11 sympathetic buzzy strings), and a probably German & probably @ 1900 student cello that I retrofitted for 5 strings (CGDAE).

Thanks to my cello students for wanting to play 60’s tunes - Graham, Rachel, Rio & Rogan - you're an inspiration! And to Shelley, Nathan, Jesse & Todd for inspirational encouragement and excellent harassment. Special thanks to my parents for driving us to gigs when we were still to young to drive!

Summer of Cello, in the middle of winter
I am very pleased to have come to this recording by virtue of being on a mailing list for another website.
I was specifically being notified about this recording.
I was hooked by the first cello note.
Love of particular music and art, is all up to one's individual taste.
I found this collection to be most appealing for me. The songs covered are of course, very familiar.I ordered this CD and took delivery of it just yesterday. I cranked it up on the stereo and sang along, finding myself screwing up lyrics, but enjoying the whole experience! Very beautiful compositions. I think you will agree. Give it a listen and I hope you enjoy this recording as I do. It has served to lift my spirits in a spell of winter doldrums 2011! For myself, I found the music in this format, inspiring and refreshing. I give this recording a 10, if the scale is 1 of 10, and 10 being top notch! You get it.
Good, good "stuff"!
