Album Notes
For my third album, Silencio, I spent two years looking for the space between the notes. Emmylou Harris once said, "restraint intensifies emotion". I composed and arranged this work with the dual goals of space and restraint. Recorded at my home on a Yamaha C-7 grand piano, I added touches of accordion, glockenspiel, guitar and bass. I then asked the virtuoso cellist John Catchings over and had him add cello to seven of the tracks, and had additional support from my guitar-playing son Brennan Walsh, and clarinetist Jim Hoke. Brennan and I co-wrote the song "Escape Velocity", and I think it's one of the high points of the album. Chad Brown mixed the recording and had some great ideas when it came to the mix process. This album was a joy to make from start to finish, and I hope you can feel that when you listen.
