Album Notes
Joan Stein, 30
Lead vocals, guitar

Joan is the group’s leader. She picked up a guitar at age 12 and started performing in her teens. In her twenties, she started teaching a group of teenagers how to sing and play acoustic music. Joan’s voice is the highlight of the group - beautiful, strong, and moving. In 2003, Joan formed a duo with Nate Zaur (known of course as Joan & Nate) which was the precursor of Basket Landing. Joan and Nate recorded a CD and began playing on the local folk music scene. Joan is married, has four boys, and lives in the Delaware River section of the Catskills.

Nate Zaur, 25
Tenor vocals, lead guitar, banjo, mandolin, string bass, piano

Nate Zaur is the group’s instrumental wizard. He is very talented and plays a wide range of instruments, having begun with the piano at age 6 and guitar at age 12. On My Old Mountain Home, Basket Landing’s CD, Nate is the key instrumentalist. He currently serves as the music teacher to the group’s younger members. Nate is married, has one daughter, and lives in the Catskill Mountains along the Delaware River.

Amy Smith,17
Banjo, backup vocals

Amy was born into a folk music family. Her father is an avid folk music singer and all of her siblings are musically talented. Amy’s musical career began with the piano and organ, then clarinet, and finally banjo. Her strong backup vocals are a nice complement to Joan’s lead voice.

John Powers, 16
Mandolin, backup vocals

John started playing the mandolin at age 13. Like his sister Amy, he has folk music in his roots. John, together with Nate, contributes strong tenor vocals to Basket Landing.

Kevin Anderson,15
Bass guitar

Kevin Anderson is 15.Rhythmically gifted, he excelled on the hand drums and then moved on to the bass guitar. Kevin is the newest and youngest member of Basket Landing and his rhythm provides a strong backbone to the group.
