Album Notes
Batuquê Trio was formed from a shared passion for Afro- Latin music and jazz. The term batuquê refers to Afro-Brazilian polyrhythmic drumming and dance. For Batuquê Trio, Latin jazz encompasses a myriad of musical styles, from the folkloric roots to contemporary trends in Afro-Cuban, Brazilian and Caribbean jazz. This recording represents the collective practical, scholarly and creative efforts of the musicians over two years time. Inspired by the ever-changing Latin jazz genre, and recent travels to São Paulo and Rio, Brazil, the trio’s take on two familiar tunes is fresh and contemporary. Steeped in groove, their original compositions are infectious and memorable for listeners.
