Album Notes
"Glow in the Dark" is the third CD by BATZZ in the belfry. Continuing in their unashamed tradition of old school goth, this latest collection of music is their most ambitious, in terms of song-writing and arrangements. More guitar-heavy than their previous recordings, and more experimental at times, "Glow in the Dark" delivers dance music as well as introspective pieces.

BATZZ has done it again!

Once I heard the song "Shinar" I wanted more. I have been into BATZZ in the belfry since their release of their first self titled EP released in 2004. I was impressed with Nelson's abilities to pull off this (for the most part) one man band show. BATZZ does have additional members to help with song writing but Nelson does most of the production. How does Nelson do this? I don't know. God given talent is the best explanation.

Not only does BATZZ have a heart for good music but also a heart for Jesus Christ which truly reflects radiantly in each composition.

BATZZ in the belfry has also released a full length album. "Sparks Fly Upward" was the band's first full length LP released in 2007. After hearing this amazing debut, I was deeply impressed. Sparks Fly Upward is a masterpiece album in my humble opinion. With songs such as "Fade To Grey", 'Come And Die", "Praying Hard", "Speak", "Dream" I didn't think anything could compare to it, let alone top it. I was wrong.

In 2009, BATZZ releases their sophmore album entitled "Glow In The Dark". This album takes traditional Goth music to a new level, especially for those who like the Christian Goth scene. Why do I think 'Glow In The Dark' compares to or tops 'Sparks Fly Upward'? It is the variety. Just like 'Sparks', this album is plentiful with laid back sombre selections as well as upbeat and dreamy tracks.

Glow In The Dark steps it up a notch with a wider array of styles. Some of the songs are reminiscent of Sisters of Mercy but still holds true to the signature BATTZ sound that sets them apart from other Gothic bands. Nelson's vocals are barritone and choir like which makes his style very original and gives the vocals more depth which brings more fullness to them.

Like 'Sparks", this album opens up with an instrumental piece. "Nightfall" brilliantly starts off 'Glow In the Dark' setting the tone for the album. This piece gives a feeling of despair but also hope. "For The Dead" follows setting the stage for the rest of the album. Also featured is their rendition of "Still Still Still" which first became available Christmas of 2007. The album closes in exquisite fashion with "These Hands".

Musically, "Glow In The Dark" is simply amazing. With Nelson's haunting vocals hovering flawlessly over the facade, you are in for a beautiful Gothic experience. Each track is performed with sheer perfection and each song has it's own story to tell. I would say more but I don't want to spoil it for those who have yet to embark on this alluring journey.

BATZZ in the belfry is not your typical Goth band and that is a very good thing. BATZZ brings to the table the candles and roses that are often missing in many of today's bands in the Gothic arena. BATZZ is best enjoyed relaxed and with the lights dimmed. I would not say this music will put you to sleep but will capture and take you on a dream and leave your soul in harmonious rest.

Would it be fair to say I have any favorites? I don't think so. Every song on this album is my favorite as each track embraces me in their own unique way.

With that said, please give "Glow In The Dark" a try, you will not be dissapointed. May you be blessed richly as you listen.
