Album Notes
This recording was the culmination of a series of concerts presented in the San Francisco Bay Area in 2005. 11 talented young women played traditional music from many different countries. It was a joyful project, growing out of years of playing together and performing under the loving guidance of
Director Diana Stork, her Assistant Director Shawna Spiteri and BAYHE Assistant Portia Diwa.

BAYHE members played on Celtic, Paraguayan, and African folks harps and performed in beautiful traditional costumes - a sari from India, a Japanese kimono, a Ukrainian dance costume, a Malian wedding dress. Much love and care by the members and their supportive families went into this project.

BAYHE members at this time were Jess Baily, Charlotte Daniels, Portia Diwa, Mirabelle Korn, Meredith McKay, Sierra Nicholson, Piper Niehaus, Lavinia Karl, Laurel Rogers, Amelia Romano, and Liza Wallace. Guest musicians were
Teed Rockwell on various percussion, and Aaron Goldman on Violin.

The music came from many sources. Diana, Shawna and Portia arranged many of the pieces; and we were extremely fortunate to be able to use the music and arrangements of these superb musicians: Maestro Ali Akbar Kahn, Kim Robertson, Alfredo Ortiz, Rudiger Oppermann, Laura Zaerr, Aryeh Frankfurter, and John Metras.

The recording was made by Lou Judson of Intuitive Audio. Together with Diana, Lou mixed the recording in such a way as to keep the excitement of the live performance and the beautiful natural resonance of St. Mary's Church.

We hope you enjoy this delightful recording.

About the Bay Area Youth Harp Ensemble:

Bay Area Youth Harp Ensemble (BAYHE) is a group of young harpists playing a wide variety of musical styles on a wide variety of folk and lever harps. Founded and directed by Diana Stork, this ensemble wowed audiences at their debut performance at the Palace of Fine Arts November 1999 with their musical skill and sensitivity.

BAYHE does many things: educates the members about world music and other styles of music, provides opportunities to grow in ensemble experience, offers a wide variety of performance opportunities, and is a great way to share and be inspired by one's peers. Well-known Bay Area harpist Shawna Spiteri has been Diana's beloved Assistant Director since BAYHE¹s inception. And Diana's very talented longtime student Portia Diwa has been BAYHE's assistant up until 2005. Amelia Romano, another talented and sensitive
harpist has since taken Portia's place as Assistant.

Some of BAYHE's numerous Bay Area performances have included the Randall Museum, Zeum Theatre, Spreckels Performing Arts Center, San Francisco City Hall, Koret Auditorium, Yerba Buena Gardens, Treasure Island Memory Walk, Lake Park Retirement Community, KALW Radio, and Channel 25 TV in Berkeley.

BAYHE is sponsored by the Multi-Cultural Music Fellowship, a 501 c 3 California non-profit dedicated to bringing the word together through the harp. For more information on BAYHE, please visit the MCMF website: multiculturalmusicfellowship.org or visit Diana¹s website:
