Album Notes
The “Beats of Burton” was preceded by three albums by Charlie, father of the other three members of the band. While the girls were strongly influenced by his several decades of playing, they bring unique contributions to the overall repertoire and sound.

We are grateful to many people who assisted with and supported this project, especially our friend, producer/engineer, and passionate musicologist, Norm MacPherson, who has played guitar for many well known bands during his stellar career, most recently with Valdy and the Hometown Band as they celebrate their 40th year this summer (2016) with several concerts. We never imagined that Norm would join us for live performances, but as he added so much instrumentation to our songs, we gradually evolved in that direction - a wonderful bonus for our relatively obscure band. Norm is truly our 5th Beat.

I must thank Garnett Betts, in whose "Coast Road Recording" studio we recorded a one-off guitar and vocal track of "The Man", which was tweaked by Norm after we had decided to include it on the album.

Mariah, the eldest, has played solo and with others, including a group led by Great Big Sea’s former bass player, Murray Foster. Although she writes songs infrequently, the few she has penned are motivated by personal experience and carefully crafted, yet relevant to any listener. Her natural lead vocals, especially on the three originals on the CD, enhance the overall effect and message.

Amy lives in Revelstoke, so was able to be here for only “She Will Be Loved”. However, it was worth the trip, as she completed the lead vocal and separate rhythm guitar tracks on the first takes, a reflection of her confidence and ability. She is immersed in the town’s music scene, where she has performed in the prestigious Revelstoke Street Festival, both as a solo and with us.

Jocelyn, the youngest, who joined our group most recently, has focused on vocal harmonies that enrich our sound, but she also shines in the lead vocal on “Gentle On My Mind”.

All three bring new material for us to keep our repertoire fresh. We must all like every song we do, and that usually involves harmony. We also seek out lesser known songs, and slowly create original tunes when we feel inclined.

Availability of group members will determine whether we record another CD; if we do, it will done with as much care and attention as our first.

Thank you for checking out the musical offerings of the Beats.
