Album Notes
Born in Ohio, Chris Belden grew up listening to records bought by his parents & 5 older siblings, everything from the Beatles & the Monkees to Allan Sherman & the soundtrack to "The Magnificent Seven." For a long time he played the drums, including a stint in Joe Henry's band (that's him playing on Joe's debut album, "Talk of Heaven"), plus years playing in bars around Detroit & NYC. Years went by.

Chris wrote a novel ("Squirt"--find it at!), a screenplay ("Amnesia", starring Ally Sheedy), & a slew of plays. Now he's recorded "Songs About Anything," 14 pop tunes refined in performance at various NYC venues, & featuring such groovy players as pianist John Hegner, drummer Aaron Comess (of the Spin Doctors!), guitarist Peter Calo (Carly Simon, Ben Taylor) & bassist Paul Aston. "This is a song about anything/I could be wrong, but there are no right answers. . ."

Better and better with each listening. Wonderfully original.
One of the most original, creative and comfortable sounds in an album in a long while.

Wonderful local music!
I heard you on NPR about 7Am, I was half asleep, and woke up after the first song to listen to the interview!

You were gret on the radio, well spoken and funny-thats when I hit the internet and googled you and here I am!
Nice sound, great lyrics-and I can't wait to get the CD.
You have to come to DC someday!

Danny Windahaven

Great summer cd...good road trip tunes!!!!

David Horncastle't..stop...listening...
Tender, touching, tongue in cheek, and just down right contagious.
Every song is my current favourite, each listen reveals new layers. What's more - my wife loves it too! No more arguing over the car stereo..

Karine Rosenthal

a great surprise I haven't taken out of my car stereo
This CD was recommended to me a friend of a friend, and I bought it to be supportive-- little did I know I was buying a FABULOUS album! This is pop at its best-- clever, heartsick, slyly funny, and ultimately quite moving. Oh, and the tunes are TERRIFIC! great arrangements, production values, etc. On first listen, a few songs really leapt out at me-- Quacks Like Love, A Few Things I Know About Her, Australia, to name a few...but as I keep listening to the album, I discover new favorites all the time-- It Could Happen to You is my current one. This is a really rich album that hasn't left my car stereo since I bought it...and I live in Los Angeles, so that's saying something.

julie gum

nice and mellow; good driving music. good lyrics

Keith Kildow

Very catchy, uncomplicated, soothing sounds...
I too first heard of Chris Belden on NRP early one morning. They played a few songs at the end of the interview segments - I was hooked! I immediately purchased the CD. I like nearly every song but my favorite is song #6, "The Few Things I Know About Her."

What a wonderful CD, every song is good.

Liner Notes From Alaska

He calls them songs about anything, but they are actually about something. Mainly heartbreak & the scattered jigsaw pieces of what might add up to the Big Picture. In a decidedly Folk Pop bedside manner, Dr. Beldon places his stethascope firmly on the heart. With a sweetly soothing voice faintly reminiscent of early Paul Simon or Folkster Will Kimbrough he takes you one a guided tour through Romance's quirky, quirky ways. Lyrically, he has all the creative wit of of say, Robyn Hitchock---without the crustation fetish. Personal favorites include Parachute & the ironic lullaby of Goodnight, Again. Does Folk Pop get any better than this? Listen & decide.
