ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
With the title track of his debut release, Lincoln's Man, reaching number three on the Folk-DJ charts, Ben Bedford proves that one need not experience something firsthand to write about it. From life as a Confederate soldier's wife to present issues such as homelessness, Bedford takes the listener on a journey across the landscape of American humanity. Poignant, but rarely sentimental, his songs are portraits which capture the life and vitality of his characters while illuminating themes of joy, struggle, death and betrayal.

After only three and a half years as a full time musician, Bedford has already gained praise from acclaimed singer songwriter Diana Jones, played Izzy Young's famed Folklore Centrum in Stockholm, Sweden, and seen his debut studio album reach the top ten on the Folk-DJ charts. Calling himself an "American Portrait Songwriter" after his photographic style of writing, he is currently working on his second release, due out in January of 2009. Like Lincoln's Man, it will be released on Hopeful Sky Records

Enticing recording, warm sound, good songs, fine performance
Ben has brought good players, good songs, warm sound and fine performance together with a lovely jacket. I especially enjoy the harmonies of Kari Abate and Sally Barris. If you like acoustic sounds served up with taste, Ben brings it to the table.

Lincoln's Man
Best album I've heard in a while. Bedford's voice is warm and inviting, pulling the listener into the story being told. And the stories have a lot of emotion and depth. Love the production too--it isn't overdone and compliments the mood of each song perfectly.

Artist of Conscience
If you love acoustic music with vivid intelligent storytelling akin to Tom Russell, Steve Young, Guy Clark then Ben Bedford will be a most exciting find for you. A midwestern songpoet that can take a moment of history and make it come alive in song for you, Ben is a treasure sure enough. Can't recommend him too highly.

The best of the new year!!
Ten tracks, ten stories; all told in a variety of voices, from vastly different points of view and all worthy of your close attention, as Ben Bedford spins a powerful tale. The lyrics are incisive, moving each story forward to its natural conclusion. Bedford has a distinct quality to his vocal styling; the phrasing and intonation reminiscent of Bruce Cockburn. This is a friendly voice, intense, yet slightly rough edged supported by superb players. Get the CD. Decide for yourself -- you won’t have a single regret.
