ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Contemporary jazz guitarist/composer/recording artist Bernard Alcorn blends music from smooth jazz/traditional jazz/urban soul/Brazilian/ and "chill" genres that has been featured on several radio stations in the U.S., Europe, Japan, and Australia. Among the stations that have featured his music are: Rod Lucas' very popular 'Best Smooth Jazz' (UK); Mark Stanley's 'Soundtraxx' (U.S.); Smooth Jazz Florida & affiliated stations; Rick O'Dell's 'Smooth Jazz Chicago' ; Graham Johnson's 'Smooth Jazz 905 (Australia); Got Radio's 'Jazz So Smooth (U.S.); Smooth Jazz.PL (Poland/Europe); McQ's Jazz (U.S.).

'HOLIDAY GROOVES' is a 4-song EP intended to help bring cheer to the Christmas/New Year holidays. 'Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas' has an upbeat smooth jazz feel for those who want to dance or just chill. Bernard's EP includes 2 versions of 'GOD REST YE MERRY GENTLEMEN' (1) the first version has a funky, soul feel reminiscent of the 70's popular group WAR. (2) the second version is a medium tempo funky samba created to please lovers of Brazilian-style jazz. Greensleeves represents Bernard's slow jazz ballad style that should appeal to traditional as well as smooth jazz lovers. 'HOLIDAY GROOVES' was highly recommended by Denis Poole (Smooth Jazz Therapy), one of the top smooth/contemporary jazz journalist. (See review on his site).

Bernard also has 3 additional cds available with CD Baby. STAY TUNED (released in 2014) features 9 of his original tunes (Rod Lucas, host of 'Best Smooth Jazz' has praised Bernard's writing skills); 'A QUIET MOMENT' can be heard on YouTube and is one of the cds most popular songs along with 'BRAZILIAN CALL' and 'STEP INTO THE LIGHT'. Cover tunes by Curtis Mayfield (MOVE ON UP), Michael Jackson (THIS IS IT), and Luther Vandross (SO AMAZING) also appear on Stay Tuned.

Bernard's older 2 cds continue to be popular and receive airplay. 'A NEW DAY' features the cover tunes 'JUST MY IMAGINATION' and 'LIGHT MY FIRE' and original songs (CHI-TOWN STRUT; WHERE IS LOVE?, S.O.S., NICE 'N EASY, BOSSAMBA). His oldest cd, 'LATE ARRIVAL', continues to be popular, especially 'SUNSET IN THE WES' (Wes Montgomery tribute) and LATE ARRIVAL' (both original songs); 'I BELIEVE IN YOU AND ME' (from 'The Preacher's Wife'), KEEP LOOKING (SADE), and 'MOONDANCE (VAN MORRISON).

Bernard's style is somewhat reminiscent of George Benson, Wes Montgomery and Lee Ritenour, but has been inspired by many other artist, past and present (Kenny Burrell, Grant Green, Larry Carlton,Earl Klugh, Azymuth (Brazilian funk), the Crusaders, David Sanborn, Herbie Hancock, Fourplay, Hugh Masekela, Incognito, Chuck Loeb, and many soul/R&B and traditional jazz artists.
