ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Encompassing a musical style unhindered by convention, Besos de Coco is a magnetic force of three classically-trained female virtuosos weaved into one compelling musical entity. Powerful and powerfully symphonic, this talented trio migrates through the infinite stretch of the harmonic atmosphere creating a patchwork of acoustic fabric for inquisitive listeners. Tucked within this artistic tapestry, original arrangements are injected with present day influences and classic compositions steeped in tradition, creating a style that commands a smoldering sense of nostalgia. From the romantic repertoire of Old World Europe, through the golden age of jazz crowned with Spanish barrio origins, discriminating ears will wander through prismatic layers of sugared-rhinestone antiquity, then pulse into gritty, knife-edged instrumentals for a cultural nexus that straddles dimension. Whether nestled in the cabaret or coffeehouse, an evening alongside this dynamic medley promises an evocative performance in the company of do’ers and dreamers. An audience drawn from a cross-section of street artists, socialites, corporate executives, and those otherwise sighted when peering through a kaleidoscopic societal lens. Attendees are rewarded with melodic measures that somersault timelessly over one another, creating soul-quenching provisions to bridge the divide and feed the culturally malnourished. While independently accomplished as Artists, the sum from each of their creative counterparts band together into a musical canvas that’s compelled to astonish. Wascinski’s adaptations of dark, breathy bow work and pluckystruck strings are seamlessly contrasted with intimate, satin vocals and a current of soothing guitar strums provided by Castellanos. Serving as the muse of meter, Gomez infuses a kinetic shuffle of percussive footwork, completing the aural soundscape into a symphony of strings and staccato. Together with a range expanding from delicate, flamenco flutter to a tempest of tango, the spectrum of Besos de Coco pushes beyond musically inquisitive boundaries, building a bridge to bohemia by engaging the senses with sultry and starlit magic. Be it a night of wayward revelry, or an evening dressed in nightfancy beneath the gloss of sophistication, the iconographic works from this collective are a treasure unbounded by stereotype and era. Feminine power with a V8 engine... This is Besos de Coco, and you should cook glorious Saturday night dinners while kitchen dancing to this anthology. —Ringo Firefly
