The Gift of Peace: A Musical Meditation

by Beth Green

A musical meditation that combines deep emotion and peace. Piano with some digital accompaniment. Composed just before the 2003 Iraq invasion, Beth was trying to help us center into a peaceful place before acting with haste. We still need that peace.

Album Notes
The Gift of Peace was originally published in CD form in 2002, and the timing is not accidental. It was released in an effort to help Americans heal from the trauma of 9/11 and not give in to the temptation to just get angry and vindictive. Composer Beth Green spoke extensively on the radio as well, calling on us to understand what was happening in the Middle East, to recognize the US role in its painful history and to think before we acted. Beth and many others took to the airwaves to try to avoid the invasion of Iraq, but as we know, it happened in 2003. Notwithstanding that tragic decision, The Gift of Peace spread. Beth gave away copies so that people could give them to others. They were played in bookstores and shops to help shift the energy of all who listened. And they brought peace to a lot of people. Some have said they can't sleep without listening to it.

Recorded using an Ensoniq KT88, The Gift of Peace was Beth's first experience of composing and recording, and it happened when she was 57 years old. In fact, the back story is pretty amazing. Born in 1945, Beth was studying classical piano when she became extremely ill at the age of 15. Stuck in bed or a chair for a year and a half and then chronically ill and disabled for the rest of her life, Beth gave up on music and the piano. On two occasions she tried to play some classical pieces again, but each time, she became too crippled to continue. It looked like playing music would never again be a part of her life. In her mid-fifties, new technology was becoming available, and she ultimately ended up composing four CDs using digital instruments. It was agonizingly painful for her to plunk down notes on a digital keyboard and then edit them in digital software, but she managed to create: The Gift of Peace; A Soul's Journey Through Darkness & Light; In the Mist; and Rumblings of Revolution (published under the name Granny Rocks.) All of these CDs are available at CD Baby and digitally. The first three are Classical/New Age in feel, and Rumblings of Revolution combines jazz, pop, classical, punk and other strands. It is also the only album on which Beth sings, as well as composes and performs all the music. But she still couldn't actually play the keyboard.

And now comes the major miracle and her latest release: Emergence to Transcendence. In 2017, Beth started to improvise on her digital keyboard. It wasn't often, but it was a start. In 2018, Beth and her husband felt guided to buy an acoustic grand piano, and she discovered she COULD play the piano if she followed her intuitive guidance and improvise. And now she can't stop. She has performed home concerts and livestreams a weekly program called Dreams of Peace. She offers it Thursdays at 7 pm Pacific time on her Facebook page. She just connects to her online audience, and the music flows. Check it out at

At the age of 74, still chronically ill and disabled, she also felt guided to create a new album called Emergence to Transcendence, where she records her improvisational piano music and adds beautiful digital instruments to the mix. The result is very powerful, heartfelt, inspiring and transformational music, which you can find here on CD Baby.

And there's more, when Beth was blocked from pursuing music at the age of 15, she became a social activist. Then in her mid-30's she had a spiritual awakening and became intuitively guided. Since then, she has been an intuitively-guided counselor, workshop leader, author of 6 books, teacher and trainer, blogger and vlogger and more. She is continuing all these activities, plus she livestreams a program called GROW, Granny Rocks Our World, also on Facebook.

Please check out her website, Facebook page and her YouTube channel, Granny Rocks TV, where she offers over 250 videos, both spoken and music. She is also offering a service called Your Personal Song, where she meets with you and intuits a song for you on her acoustic piano.

Beth still can't believe she's playing the piano, but she does. And people are impacting. We invite you to listen to all her music, check out her offerings and see if she can't be of service to you or others. And please spread The Gift of Peace. We all need it.
