Album Notes
This song is the second piece of music Beth ever wrote. Because of chronic illness since she was 15, Beth was cut off from playing the piano and doing anything musical until the advent of computer music, and suddenly she had an instrument! She could compose using a keyboard and a computer, and she discovered new dimensions of herself. Even with a computer and keyboard, she could not play the piano anymore, but she could compose and edit through the miracle of MIDI. But she still had a big obstacle. She was absolutely convinced that she could NOT compose music. She had been a classically-trained pianist and revered the compositions of the "masters." She felt it would be blasphemy to even think SHE could compose. Nevertheless a tune came to her -- a love song with lyrics and a bit of an accompaniment, and the ice was broken. The next thing -- and this may seem to intimate to you, but it's true -- she was standing in the shower and this strange melody came to her. Add to that a chant that she had been singing for years (she is a spiritually-oriented being, and this chant just came to her one day), and you have the beginning of a very intense and transcendental piece of music called Beyond the Mystery. Her keyboard has a cool piano sound, plus a wonderful spacey voice called -- not coincidentally -- Space Voice. She LOVED the Space Voice. In fact the piano felt like her in one dimension, and the Space Voice felt like her in another. Well, without getting too airy fairy, a piece came out combining the chant, the melody from the shower -- with its haunting sounds -- the piano and the Space Voice. And that's Beyond the Mystery. This piece became part of Beth's first CD published in 2002, called The Gift of Peace. The whole CD is like a meditation that is at once soothing and emotional and uplifting. That CD was released as a gift for people to distribute to one another to help people become more calm and detached and it was part of a campaign to try to prevent the US from invading Iraq. Now skip ahead 12 years. At the end of 2014, Beth composed a piece called "Into the Mystery." She combined it with two earlier pieces of music -- "More Mystery" and "Beyond the Mystery," and now you had "The Mystery Trilogy." You would think those three pieces had been written to be together. They are linked on a deeply spiritual plane. When you listen to the three together, the effect is more powerful than any of them alone. Phew. So Beyond the Mystery is now the concluding piece of "The Mystery Trilogy" and also concludes her award-winning video, The Mystery Trilogy on YouTube. Listen and enjoy!
