Album Notes
Keyboardist Beth Lederman has been a mainstay of the Phoenix music scene for a number of years. As band leader for the Brazilian group Novo Mundo she had a chance to deeply explore the music of Brazil and of the latin music that she loves, but she is also deeply rooted in the swing tradition. This second recording of hers as a solo artist is a blend of latin and swing featuring some great guest artists and vocalists. The pieces are all anchored by Beth's smooth arrangements and musicality; their common thread is the lyricism and musical integrity which weave through the entire album.
"Arizona-born pianist-composer Beth Lederman's new CD, “Las Sombras” represents her incredible piano diversity, inventive arrangements and memorable originals. Beth has led two strong combos during the past decade, the Brazilian-focused Novo Mundo and the newer Jazz con Alma Latin ensemble.

She demonstrates her agile keyboard style and fertile imagination with standards and originals that include the longtime audience favorite, “Supai Waltz.” This album offers high-level musicianship for an ear-pleasing mix of Latin and swing sounds that includes Beth’s distinctive solo interpretation of Joni Mitchell’s “Both Sides Now.”

The tracks are enhanced by an A-list of guest artists: Dennis Rowland, Jerry Donato, Mike Crotty, Mary Petrich, Sherry Roberson, Paul Anderson, Joe Garcia, Kay Peper, Todd Chuba, Mike King, Mike Ozuna and Pete Pancrazi, each adding a diverse element to her stellar core trio of Felix Sainz-bass and Emerson Laffey-drums. This one’s a keeper for serious jazz collectors.

Best Keyboard Player You've (most likely) Never Heard Of
If THIS doesn't put Beth Lederman on the map as a star is the jazz keyboard galaxy, there is something truly amiss in the universe. Buy the CD! Give some to friends! See her live! She's the real deal, hidden in the Phoenix area like a jewel waiting for its setting....

Expressive Latin meet Jazz Performance
Beth's expressive artistry drives the Latin and Jazz persona of this production. The driving combination of fast moving Latin rhythms contemporary licks of Jazz make a joy to listen too. The artist that play on this CD are pros in their own right. Brava

Beautiful And Exciting
Beth Lederman is a great talent along with the musicians who played on this cd. When listening to Las Sambras all I could think of is that she should be walking across that stage to receive a Grammy. I work as a music assistant at KJZZ RADIO 91.5 and she has had as of date over 40 plays. This is awesome! I highly recommend this cd.
