Album Notes
Beth Preston resonates to a higher frequency.

Not to say that she's not down to earth- if you see her play, you know that what she's sharing is real. There is no effort to impress in her presence- only to express herself with primal resonant vocals, and lyrics that not only pull the heartstrings, but also carry a strong positive message.
Born in Whittier, California in 1982 to passionately musical parents, she started playing guitar and piano at a young age, and migrating down the coast to Northern San Diego County where she would do most of her growing up, found a great influence in the pulse and beauty of her environment.
Aside from her more recognized and obvious musical influences such as Ani Difranco, Cat Power, Jeff Buckley, Elliot Smith, Manu Chao, and others, she holds true to many micro-influences she has found in other genres like hip-hop and reggae, that are reflected in the heartbeat and poetry of her songs. Not to mention her parents, who had a huge influence in her musical upbringing.
“I grew up in San Diego, listening to a lot of blues music, and a lot… A LOT of other kinds of music… and my parents both played in different projects and bands as I was growing up… I had a lot of influence from my mom and my dad…”
From the time she was just a six-year old girl dancing and drinking Shirley Temples at her mother’s shows, to her teenage years when she began singing and sitting in at her parents gigs, Beth developed a love for playing as well as performing
Discovering the music of Jeff Buckley and Ani Difranco in her late teens without a doubt introduced Beth to a new definition of musical and poetic expression, and she was writing songs and performing by the time she was 18. By 22, along with the release of her first EP, Great Big Wave, she had completed a national tour of Australia with folk artist Xavier Rudd, and was beginning to tour Canada, and the United States, where she also found spots at the famous Vancouver Folk Festival, and with artists such as Michael Franti and Spearhead, Melissa Ferrick, and others.
Beth's first full-length album was long coming. Along with a slew of garage-band bedroom recordings that she created, she also recorded the tracks to her album ‘Inside Fire’, which was released in November of 2006, a melting pot of musical genres, with newly found influences in reggae, groove, and percussion coupled with her folk-rock roots.
In her live performance, Beth Preston is explosive and dynamic, bringing a full-bodied presence and enthusiasm. As she continues to source new wells of inspiration, she strives to promote higher levels of awareness, conscious living, and a fervent love for life.

I close my eyes and my heart lets go, my soul dances up out of my body.....
I close my eyes and my heart lets go, my soul dances up and out of my body and I am bliss.
Beth's thought-evoking lyrics and melodic voice speaks to your psyche and you find yourself enveloped by her power.
And when she is not wooing you, she is inspiring you with her wisdom and playfullness. A true GODDESS of music and the cosmos.............

I saw Beth Perform with her band at BellyUp in Solana Beach the other night. I can't get her out of my head. So much going on in her music. So much physicality incomprehensibly mixed with sweetness on stage. Terrific creative breadth!

i met the music maybe 6 months ago and have pretty much listened to it every day since. i love this cd! i should leave it at that because it really is that simple. every track is complete and full of a certain something. i love the energy it contains and the energy it shares. i'm happy to be in the know when it comes to this beautiful music!

Great album - :-D
The sounds heard on “inside fire” hold all the ear-pleasing rudiments which one might expect to hear from a Folk Rock album, though Preston is able to somehow simultaneously convey a sense of passionate emotion in her music.
