ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
"I'll Stop For A Dollar" delivers juicy instrumental and vocal performances as wall as powerful musical arrangements. But this album is also very well-recorded. It will sound good just about anywhere but if you have access to a big hifi system, it will really give you an unusually rich listening experience. It uses a seemingly-new "technology": Dynamic Range.

Did you know that a lot of modern albums start with recordings that easily exceed 70 dB of dynamic range and end up being "squashed" to as little as 3dB, just so it will sound "as loud as the other albums"?

Amazing; This is an idiotic and dysfunctional industry practice that ruins what often starts out as good music.

This recording collection will really jump on any good system A lot of car stereos will jump pretty good, just turn it up.

"Gotta Know Why" and "Tokyo" are REALLY dynamic, going from spare voice/piano to full rock-ensemble chat.

Lots of entertaining stories here, boys and girls. Plus, a great song to play at a wedding "Wedding Walk". Clap you hands and take it to church.

The First Time You Left Me
© Steve Greeley, 2010

You like to keep things to yourself
Yeah, by now I’ve learned that well
But back then I didn’t know the things we had both been through
didn’t count at all, I was set up for the fall

Yeah I remember everything about the first time you left me
How it took me most of a year just to get back in gear
There was nothing gained and nothing learned from the first time you left me
‘Cause as I watched you go, I knew that I’d never known you

I swear that each time will be the last time
I’m not gonna throw you another lifeline
But something about you makes me break down and take you back
You say that things have changed, but I know they’re going to be the same

I remember everything about the first time you left me
How it took me most of a year just to get back in gear
There was nothing gained and nothing learned from the first time you left me
‘Cause as I watched you go, I knew that I’d never know you

Well I don’t know why you panic and I don’t know why you run
And why you always find up tearing down the good things that you’ve done
I can’t stand to think of what might have been and what we could have become
If you didn’t throw it all away at the first sign of trouble

Yeah I remember everything about the first time you left me
How it took me most of a year just to get back in gear
There was nothing gained and nothing learned from the first time you left me
‘Cause as I watched you go, I knew that I’d never known you

Weeds
© Stephen Greeley

Here on this farm, we grow all kinds of weeds
And we sell them to people who truly believe
We tell them it's corn, and great fields of swaying wheat
We describe the sweet smells and the wonders they see

And the harvest comes with the fall
As the tired Son is slowly fading
But the weeds will grow - grow sky high
And we tell all the world of our bounty

It's said what you sow will be what you reap
From the dirt on this farm, there'll be nothing to eat
But only those who believe can be sure what they see is all that they need:
A gift from heaven
And the harvest comes with the fall
As the tired Son is slowly fading
But the weeds will grow - grow sky high
And we tell all the world of our bounty

We are the Chosen
United we stand
And the Old World looks on in cold envy
As God's grace is shed on Thee.

But only those who believe can be sure what they see is all that they need:
A gift from heaven

Big Red Sun

We finally lost the crazy bastard
But we’re on the edge of true disaster.

They say we’ve got to face the facts
Now the odds are way too stacked
I just want to get you off my back

I’ve got a big red sun its rays fall down all around me.
Like a beating heart, I feel its loving surround me.

Now the summer’s getting longer
And all the storms are growing stronger,
But I’ll embrace my only friend, live in denial to the end.

It’s always better when you pretend.

I’ve got a big red sun its rays fall down all around me.
Like a beating heart, I feel its loving surround me.

It’s All Been Arranged
© Stephen Greeley

I’ve worn this suit of armor all my life
Always thought it could stand up to the toughest fight
But something’s gotten through and its eating from the inside out
Soon there’ll be nothing left of me

I wonder how I ever wound up here with tubes stuck in my veins
I want to go back home, but I know I’m too afraid

Yeah, well it’s all been arranged
The story’s told, it’s time to turn the page
When you reach the end, nothing can be changed
It’s all been arranged now

My little girl called me to say that she’s all right
Never thought I’d be hearing her voice last night
You don’t know what to say after all that time
And so I just listened – as every word of regret and sorrow poured right out
I wished that I could tell her what this life is all about

But Girl, it’ll all be arranged
You’re gonna have to find your own way
Oh, even with every mistake
It’ll all be arranged

I was dreaming, before the sun came up, of our place down by the lake
Not a worry, as the children run, and our laughter breaks
There’s no use in wallowing in regret
I’ve got too many, and there’s no time left for that
But if there was just one thing I could take back
That would be you, Babe

Sad old clock just mocking me now, losing track of time
But I still remember you – and how my love was way too blind
Well Darling, it’s all been arranged
You’ll never have to cry another day
I know you’re gonna leave me behind, but Baby, that’s okay
It’s all been arranged now

Couldn’t Decide
© Stephen Greeley

She said she wanted me by her side ‘till the end of time or until we die
or something like that I wasn’t really listening
She might have wanted me to change my ways or to show some sign I could raise my game
I can’t help myself - something’s always missing

I felt so tight and so unnatural
I stood there frozen in my tracks - Oh, why?

I couldn’t decide
I couldn’t decide
I looked in her eyes, but I couldn’t decide
Too much on my mind
Maybe that’s why nothing ever happens
Nothing ever happens

I know that there were things I said, but I’m standing here and I scratch my head
And I don’t no how there was “an understanding”
But there was something ‘bout the way she talked and it made me feel I was about to walk
to the edge of somewhere the view was too commanding

Baby all my confidence was shrinking
Maybe I was only over thinking things
But I couldn’t decide I couldn’t decide
I could see her surprise when I couldn’t decide
I should open my mind - maybe that’s why nothing ever happens
Nothing ever happens

Oh no...Babe, I’ve got to go

I couldn’t decide I couldn’t decide
I could see her surprise when I couldn’t decide
Too much on my mind - maybe that’s why nothing ever happens

I couldn’t decide
I couldn’t decide
Along for the ride, but I couldn’t decide
Too much on my mind, maybe that’s why nothing ever happens
Nothing ever happens

Soul Satisfaction
© Cliff Henricksen

Well, the human nation’s in a cold cold freeze
Take a man’s creation, make him crawl on his knees
Take the love of a woman, turn that child to stone
Take the blood of a human, leave the flesh and the bone
Trading love for money, broken hearts for change
Thinking nothing of it, playing the power game
It’s a soul seduction, it’s a bad reaction
When the key to living is that
Soul Satisfaction

Now there’s a life depending on a telephone call
And your dream is ending by the clock on the wall
There’s a murder happening on the satellite beam
There’s a deep betrayal there’s a silent scream
Can you see the writing? Can you feel the pain?
There’s a bad connection from the heart to the brain
It’s a soul seduction, it’s a fatal attraction
When the key to living is that
Soul Satisfaction

You can fool somebody with that same old line
“yeah it’s only business, we do it all the time”
But in the late of the evening when you’re out of the action
Do you really think you’re getting Soul Satisfaction?
Soul Satisfaction!!

Take It Down
© 2010 Clifford A, Henricksen

Of all the planets in the universe, we got it especially wrong
Every time we try to make it on our own, the devil come along

Now he built a house of corruption, with the rooms full of lying and pain
People sad and suffering and they don’t know what to do
So bring me that wrecking chain, we’re going to

Take it Down, Oh, take it down, don’t leave a bit of it standing
Take it Down, down to the ground, we need some working and planning

I got to find the believers and put them on the wrecking train
Somebody to stand up and testify and someone to lend a hand, ‘cause we’ll be

Knocking on the doors of the big house
Shaking ‘em till the walls come tumbling down
Bring it on home, with steel and conviction
Yeah, we’re gonna take it down

Take it Down, Oh, take it down
Don’t leave a bit of it standing
Take it Down, down to the ground
Get to working and planning
Take it Down, Oh, take it down
Don’t leave a thing for tomorrow
Take it Down, down to the ground
We got to stop all this sorrow

Tokyo
© 1994 Clifford A, Henricksen

I took my baby down to Tokyo
Now I’m looking everywhere I go
I lost her on the train, I’ll never see her again, but I know
She’s down in Tokyo

She disappeared on the Shinjuku line
She left me stranded, left me right on time
Now I see her face in every place I go,
Down in Tokyo

Now I’m living down in Tokyo, far away from the things I know
Riding on the JR train all day
At night I drive the Shutoko, or listen to the radio
Or cry out all my tears on the dock of the Bay
Down in Tokyo

I’ve been searching for my sweet cherie
From Akita to the China Sea
I ride the Shinconsen, all over old Japan, ‘cause I know
She’s down in Tokyo

I’m asking everyone I see, said “have you seen my sweet Marie
Jiro, can you spare just a bit of your time
Now, here’s a faded photograph, this picture breaks my heart in half
Jiro, have you see this girl of mine?”
Down in Tokyo

I lost my baby, lost my only one
On the island of the rising sun
Such a mystery, how she slipped from me
But I know, she’s down in Tokyo

Wedding Walk
© 1996 Clifford A, Henricksen

I’m gonna walk next to my baby this wedding day
Yes I’m gonna walk next to my baby this wedding day
Said yes I do, said yes I will, this mighty love is stronger still
I’m gonna walk next to my baby this wedding day

I’m gonna walk after we said those sweet wedding vows
I’m gonna walk next to my baby, I feel so proud
So proud today, so proud to be, with all of the friends and the family
I’m gonna walk next to my baby this wedding day

We’re gonna walk this celebration right down the aisle
That choir is singing bet you can hear it for a hundred miles
Sing for the bride, sing for the groom, this wedding walk is gonna rock this room
We’re gonna walk this celebration right down the aisle

Some people cry, some testify, some people sing
Now don’t you sigh just dry your eye I want to hear it ring
We’re gonna walk, it’s party time that wedding walk right down the line
So don’t you cry don’t testify, let me hear you sing

We’re gonna walk…

Boat Ride
© Clifford A Henricksen 1991

I took a boat ride, leaving on the high tide, all around the beautiful world
The gentle motion of the swirling ocean, rocked me like my favorite girl
Well, I saw the starlight the planets and the moonlight shining on the silvery sea
My mind was reeling from the wonder and the mystery

I could feel the surging of the mighty waters, rolling since the start of time
I could feel the wisdom in the ancient forest, sending me a mighty sign
I went up on the mountain and I stood in silence, shining in the glow of the day
Was so dazed and helpless that I couldn’t even turn away

Didn’t have a clue, didn’t know what to do
When I heard a whisper sweet and low
Said “the only reason, only reason, only one reason I know”

It’s Love, love, love, love
Yes I do believe it’s love that makes the world go ‘round

I saw the fast train, the rockets and the jet planes
Highways and the cities too
There was rain and thunder, lightning and wonder
The power and the glory too
You can see it in the headlines, read it on the hotline
Baby don’t you realize
That the power of creation is shining right between your eyes

When you see that light everything’s all right
Baby, don’t you want to go
To the stars above, to the one you love
To the only one reason I know

It’s Love, love, love, love
Yes I do believe it’s love that makes the world go ‘round

Midnight Mood
© Cliff Henricksen

If you want a little company, and it’s a clear night and the right time
I’ll be sitting by the fire, sipping on a good wine (that’s where I’ll be)
You can see me by the window, I’ll be glowing in the ember-light
Staring at the star-shine, I’ll be in a

Midnight Mood

You can find me in a good mood, you can find me in a bad mood too
‘Cause I’m a moody kind of fella, I ain’t always in the mood for you
But if you catch me at the right time, I’ll be right there waiting for you
Hit me with the right sign, put me in a

Midnight Mood

When you come around looking for me darling
I know you’ll get me in a Midnight Mood
And even it’s way out in the midnight hour
I hope you find me in a Midnight Mood
So won’t you come on over to my place baby
I want to be there in a Midnight Mood

Gotta Know Why
© Stephen Greeley

Why? Why do I have to wait? When I need you so, you’re so far away
Oh I can deal with a delay
But you’re taking your sweet time, and I’m running out of mine

You’ve got those eyes – eyes that fascinate
You make me ache all over, when you look my way
I tried to reason love a way
But you’re working overtime at messing up my mind

Girl I gotta know why, I gotta know why
You’re playing so cool, and driving me wild
Girl I gotta know why – I gotta know why

Why? Why do I hesitate? You know it would be over if I had my way
But each time I try to make a break
You hold me once again, and reason just can’t win

Girl I gotta know why
I gotta know why
You’re playing so cool, and driving me wild
Girl I gotta know why – I gotta know why
