Album Notes
This acoustic trio has been performing as E.L.K. or "Elaine, Lambert & Karl" for the past 5 years. This new live recording is the result of a beautiful concert night in an intimate venue near Berkley California. On the evening of this recording, Mars was in view and closer to the earth it had been for thousands of years. Within the walls of this venue was a gallery of tapestries and art, musical instruments, gardens and most importantly a beautiful audience who graciously joined in to create that good vibe, in-the-moment magic in the room that is perfect for recording.

Elaine Dempsey, L.E. Lambert & Karl Werne are three , singer, songwriter musicians who bring their songs, instrumentation and hearts together to perform in venues all over the country. This live CD is a collection of original songs as well as songs by artists they have admired through the years including Bill Withers, Tracy Chapman, Steve Earl and Sly & the Family Stone. Kevin So's song "Individual" remains a concert favorite and is included in the mix. Original songs such as "Mars", evoke hope for a more peaceful time. "Love Compromise" is a touching reflection on finding one's place in relationship. By the evenings end, Big Wide Grin was joined by Ann Jefferson, John Haley Walker, Terry Wells, & Jim Bitter for the final song. Clayton Gibb (Keb' Mo' band) engineered and mastered this production as beautifully as he did with their previous release of E.L.K. "Live Simple. Breathe Deep".

This trio loves to perform. Watch their website for upcoming tour dates. Until then purchase their music to hold you over. They are already planning their next studio CD. Enjoy!

Another awsome album
Another great CD. This CD addresses issues in everyday life. It is simply great music. I listen to it to relax and clear my mind!

In a (music) world full of hype, over-production and "flavor of the month" wannabees, it's always a pleasure to experience a performance by genuinely talented artists who know how to connect with their audiences. Such a group is BWG. I strongly suggest you purchase this CD then make it a point to hear them live in Concert. You will NOT be disappointed.

Good music, great message
This CD has a strong message with powerful lyrics and really nice music. 'Individual' and 'This World' in particular address huge social issues in interesting ways. The music is rather less narrative than previous music by the group -- there are multiple anecdotes about various people in most songs rather than stories about single individuals -- and might be considered a bit more 'preachy' because of it, but I happen to like that aspect just fine. 'Mama Tell Me,' 'The Meadow,' and 'Grandma's Hands' are fabulous, too (and the first and third are more story-like than the others). Politically, 'Mars' is very moving as well. I highly recommend this CD to anyone who thinks social justice is an important topic for the world to be thinking about ...

Great music, which included the songs we wanted to hear again, from a concert we saw in Phoenixville, Pa.

Highlights: guitar, voice, lyrics
Recently I heard Kyle and Elaine perform in Elmira, NY and realized I was in the presence of real musicians - no amplification, processing, etc - just honest voice and guitar. Many songs they sang are on this CD, and I am delighted to relive that experience of hearing their songs, so beautifully, mournfully filling the performance space. Elaine and Kyle have a remarkable synergy when they share voice, guitar, and stories about the origin of lyrics. Kyle's guitar solos can whisper sweet lullabies or whip up a frenzy of emotion. He is a master musician. if you hear Big Wide Grin in person, you'll be compelled buy this CD. But why wait when you can buy it now?

This is an inspirational album to say the least
The Live album is everything that I want to hear when I think of my experiences at Abbey Road. It is positive, quaint and expresses a vibe that is all but lost in the new age music scene. Karl, you are the man.
