Album Notes
I’ve long been a fan of Rod Serling’s master work; The Twilight Zone. I love the stories, the mystery and the wonder. I was first exposed to the show in the early 1970’s – catching re-runs every afternoon, right after Bonanza – right before Love American Style. I could escape whatever was troubling me at school or in my personal life – my parents had just finalized a divorce so escape was a priority. The Twilight Zone provided just that. The very first episode I can remember watching was Mirror Image. I was hooked. I couldn’t wait to get home each day to find out what was going to happen next. The twists blew me away; the subject matter, far removed from the typical TV fare of the time - and it was the opening theme music that ushered me into this strange and wonderful realm. Yet, that is the one component of the series that is sometimes overlooked in the myriad of books, articles and essays about the show; the accompanying music – much of it written by some of the great composers of the day. These episodes could not be as special and meaningful if the music had been one measure different. Even when you realize that some of the pieces were used multiple times throughout the five seasons – these snippets of sound still work no matter what scene they support – adding to the magic and feel of each scene.

The compositions compiled here are a meager attempt at capturing the overarching feel of Serling’s magical series. Mystery, wonder, tension, fear, beauty – maybe even some familiar themes sprinkled in. I hope you enjoy.
