ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Feeling very happy! Yesterday at the Studio in the Country (Bogalusa, Louisiana), with assists from Karen and the gentle direction and sound engineering of Ben Mumphrey (Karen’s nephew), we laid down a baker’s dozen of tracks of old Irish songs I’ve picked up over the years.

The payment for the session started out as a gift from Karen, who likes my singing and knows how I wanted my family to hold onto some of the music that my parents and Maude’s family brought to America - but then Ben, in a lovely gesture, gave us the session as a wedding gift.

The result was more than I could have hoped for! It is a rough and ready, a capella, unedited, warts and all set of mostly one-take offerings that, for me, capture the spontaneity and sincerity of the way we sang them in the bars and at the house parties in Inwood (my old neighborhood) and other spots around the Big City all those many years ago.
