Bill Lloyd's "Lloydering" is a Welcome Treat
In addition to his consistently swell original compositions, Bill Lloyd has contributed plenty of ace tracks to various tribute discs over the years, and SpyderPop Records collects most of ’em on the new, 12-track collection. With the exception of one previously unreleased tune from 2013 – a lovely reading of the Lovin’ Spoonful’s “Coconut Grove” – these covers were all originally released between the years 1990 and 2005, mainly on small, independent labels. As the bulk of the tributes from whence "Lloydering"’s tracks came are long out of print, this collection is a most welcome treat. Lloyd’s splendid run through of the Hollies’ “Step Inside” just may be my favorite cover of the past 30-odd years. Sheer perfection. Between the impeccable track selection and Lloyd’s reverent-yet-passionate performances, "Lloydering" is a disc you’ll want to hear again and again. Don’t miss it. Power Pop Album of 2016
If you fancy yourself a fan of classic pop music, you'll want to order this fantastic set of covers by Bill Lloyd. Fast.
Song selection here is outrageously tasty:
"Let Her Dance" (Bobby Fuller Four) "The World Turns All Around Her" (Byrds) "Lonely You" (Badfinger) "Coconut Grove" (The Lovin' Spoonful) "Across the Universe" (The Beatles) "Step Inside" (The Hollies) "The Lottery Song" (Nilsson) "Goin' Nowhere Tonight" (The Raspberries) "Neverland" (The dB's)
"Every Word Means No" (Let's Active) "Whole Wide World" (Wreckless Eric) "I Don't Want to Tie You Down" (Todd Rundgren)
Despite being a collection of covers by artists of different eras, which was recorded over a period of several years at different studios, the album holds together wonderfully and cohesively. I am having a hard time picking my favorite track, though I'm leaning toward the rocking "Neverland", Bill's take on "Whole Wide World" is outstanding. They're all great.
The packaging on this release is ridiculously cool. You'll definitely want to order the physical copy as this thing is a collectible waiting to be. Cover art by Dan Zimmer is world class and the CD jacket is like a little gatefold LP. I'm not sure why all CDs aren't put out with this design.

Bottom line, you can't lose here. Great songs, great performance, great packaging.
