ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
“Still Alive” by recording artist Bill Vernon is a masterful collection of heartfelt Country Rock Ballads with a sound and feel all their own. All 13 songs on this CD are originals written by Bill who played ALL instruments, vocals, recorded, mixed, mastered and produced the entire CD himself in his Franklin, North Carolina studio nestled deep in the Great Smoky Mountains. He is truly a one man band.

His music career began back when he was in the seventh grade. He and his brother formed a band with another friend with Bill playing drums at the time. The band went on to play at school dances and alike and even landed a gig playing on “Captain Al Start’s Showboat” which cruised up and down the inner coastal waterway in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. As the years progressed he played both drums and guitar in several garage bands. When you consider that to this very day he can not read a lick of music nor has he had any formal training you begin to appreciate Bill as a truly talented and gifted musician. But that’s not all! Recording music is just the latest in his list of lifetime accomplishments.

You see, Bill is an accomplished sculptor with not one but two collectible sculpture lines under his belt boasting tens of thousands of collectors worldwide to this very day! He is the artist behind the “Shade Tree Cowboys” and The “Series Of Evolution Wildlife Sculptures”. Bill founded Shade Tree Creations, Inc which became the vehicle he used to produce and promote his wide variety of art, sculptures, gifts and home décor items. Soon he was also setting up retail locations in malls across the country as well as a large store in Gatlinburg, TN. These shops were dedicated primarily to selling only the products that he and his company produced. He built Shade Tree from nothing to having as many as 400 employees. However, the rigors of running his little “empire” were taking their toll.

By now Bill and his family were living in Gainesville, FL. Then, one day after closing all of his retail locations Bill cut his manufacturing operation in half overnight as he sought to lighten the stresses of his life and return to a simpler life to enjoy the fruits of his labor. Life was good but there was still something missing. Being born in the mountains of West Virginia he had the mountains in his blood. So, in 1996 he moved the factory and family to the mountains of Franklin, NC. His return to a simpler life was now getting even better. Then tragedy struck when in 1998 the factory burnt to the ground. A kick in the gut to be sure as he stood by and helplessly watched his baby, the company he founded go up in smoke. Standing at the crossroads, too young and restless to fully retire Bill and his wife Cheryl made the decision to rebuild the factory but would drastically cut the amount of products they produced and rebuild on an even smaller scale. In the meantime, Bill began to buy raw land and develop residential mountain communities. The crown of his developments is Featherstone, one of the finest developments of its kind in all of Western North Carolina.

Today Bill is completely out of the sculpture and manufacturing business. Featherstone is now nearly 100% complete and Bill is having a ball enjoying his music once again. In fact, he has also begun production of his own music videos. Visit: www.billvernon.com or search “Bill Vernon” on YouTube. We hope you’ll enjoy his music and keep an eye on this unusual Artist. Who knows what he’ll deliver us in the future. www.billvernon.com
