Album Notes
Billy Jonas LIVE
for adults/general audiences
(recordings for families/young audiences are listed separately)

Billy Jonas is a singer/songwriter, guitarist, "industrial re-percussionist," and a one-man-band whose primary instrument is the audience. "Billy Jonas LIVE" is a portrait of a turn-of-the 21st century hootenanny, in the grand folk tradition, where everybody's in the band. With the exception of the bonus track, "Billy Jonas LIVE" was recorded all during one concert on February 16, 2002, by Neale Eckstein at Fox Run, in Sudbury, MA. It features Billy solo, accompanied by a stellar "audience orchestra" who learn their parts as they go. Special guests include Eric Schwartz (backup vocals on "Coup d'Etat") and David Wilcox (backup vocals on the bonus track "God is IN").

A Billy Jonas performance, and "Billy Jonas LIVE," is an explosion of energy, tempered with moments of lyrical introspection and mellifluous calm. In sing-alongs, bang-alongs, and whisper-alongs, everyone becomes part of a performance that reaches out and ". . . touches even the most hardened of hearts." (Fayetteville Morning News)

As with all Billy Jonas concerts, "Billy Jonas LIVE" begins with a simple "tuning" of the audience; from there a whimsical trajectory carries listeners through stories of life, love, and triumph over 'Murphy's Law.' Jonas' original pieces are played on fanciful "industrial re-percussion" instruments made from found objects. He sings in a clear tenor voice; his guitar work is adventurous, alternately percussive and lyrical.

Jonas' heartwarming work has been enjoyed across North America since 1987. Previously a member of the highly acclaimed duo, "The Billys," he has been
featured at prestigious festivals and venues nationwide (see selected
venues). Jonas has shared stages with some of the world's favorite acoustic
artists, including Patti Larkin, Ani DiFranco, David Wilcox, Richard Thompson, and Pete Seeger.

Jonas' most recent studio CD for adults/ general audiences is "Life So Far." It sparkles with unique perspectives and found sounds. Songs filled with hope, yearning, wonder, and wisdom include special guests David Wilcox, Glen Velez, Robert Moog (on Theramin), and Zimbabwe's Black Umfolosi voice and percussion choir. Jonas most recent studio CD for families/young audiences is "What Kind of Cat are YOU?!" which has received a Parent's Choice Gold Award, and an Award of Excellence from Discovery.com. Jonas has also has released a video for younger audiences, entitled "Bangin' and Sangin,'" that has garnered critical acclaim, including a Parents Choice Gold Award, and inclusion on the New York Times "Best" listing.

Billy Jonas' performances will inspire, inform, and enlighten. His work is born out of respect and reverence, and seeks to honor the creative energy in everyone. Billy provides performances and workshops for adult audiences and/or family audiences.

Billy is accompanied by a full ensemble of singers and re-percussionists at
larger venues.

We heard "P______ing Outside" on the Dr. Dimento show while driving
We heard P____ing Outside on the Dr. Dimento show while driving through Amarillo, Texas. It's a witty, catchy little song that kept us all laughing. This CD is fun and interactive.

Jonas is In...
...My Collection of Favorites to sing, laugh with, and share. While I thoroughly enjoy all the songs on the CD, I really got hooked when we played "God is In" for our Unitarian Universalist congregation (that Sunday's homily was about "Humor and Spirituality.") The lyrics are simultaneously simple and profound. As a singer, I am challenged to remember all the lines in all the verses in the right orders. I stay intrigued and amused by the wit and wisdom of all of the songs. The jubilant rhymes and rhythms make me wish I could give up my day job to join Billy on the road, in order to learn from and create with him along an obvious celebration of LIFE!

What's not to love? P**g and G-d on the same disc!
Fun, uplifting, witty - but most of all, just great music characterize this CD. Needless to say, P***ing outside is my 6 and 9 year old boys' favorite track - perhaps anywhere, ever. I, myself, lean toward God is In. I only wish there were more songs on it, but only because we love it so much.

Lovely CD
This CD is more for adults, but also for kids-really wonderful, humorous, lovely songs.

I bought this CD to collect P***ing Outside, and already had the other songs on
Having bought the CD to collect P***ing Outside, I thought that the other songs (most I have on another CD) had little to offer. The presentation of One and Zack's Walk, even the little gaff on God is In, make the songs delightfully accessible in a way that is not so obvious on the polished studio recordings. If you perform the music of others, and thought that Billy Jonas' stuff was too complex to share with friends and family through your own gifts, buy this CD; with it, Billy frees us all up to sing his songs. Billy takes the highest level of musicianship and re-percussionism, preserves it, and allows it to be folk. Make sure to let everyone know where to order it!

Clever little tune "P*****' Outside" I love clever!
I heard the song P***** Outside on the Dr. Daminto show, and I thought; clever little tune, and I like clever! So while driving down the road at 70, I scribbled down the name Billy Jonas, and when I got home from work looked for a web site. The rest is history! Would fit nicely on the Bob & Tom show which I am an avid lister of. I think I'll write them about Billy.

I like the songs One, Late, Sleeping, and God is in... the best. The songs are simple and relaxing. Thanks.

One of the best CD's our family has.
Having attended two Billy Jonas concerts, our family wanted to continue enjoying the fun (and spirituality!), so naturally we bought several CD's. I played this one for a good friend, and she enjoyed it so very much that I bought one for her for Christmas. I never get tired of listening to it!

Great Christmas gift
My wife & I saw Billy live in Coopersville, MI the summer of 2004. We enjoyed it so much that I purchased the CD for my wife for Christmas.

Wonderfully invasive! You can't listen to this CD passively.
I love this CD because it is so unique. There is no part heard before, and nothing that must be ignored to enjoy the music. It just pulls you in until you're dancing and shouting out the words. I wake every morning to "Coup D'etat" and go to sleep with "Sleeping Together". That's another thing I love about these songs- they range all over the place but keep the same soul. "Zack's Walk" is my favorite- it just gets into me and carrys me with it. All in all, amazing music!
