Early Life
Growing up in the early 90’s on Long Island NY, Ian began his musical career as a young teen inspired by Seattle's swarm of super successes like Nirvana and Pearl Jam. He fronted the punk band Timothy Grass. While still in high school, Ian made a switch to an acoustic guitar and began writing folk-rock songs. Heavily influenced by songwriters Bob Dylan, Neil Young, David Bowie and Lou reed he left the punk rock behind and began writing lyrically heavy, singer-songwriter music.
In 1997 Blake Ian was accepted into the Music Conservatory at Purchase College. He attended Purchase where he studied composition and production with classmates Regina Spektor and Dan Deacon. He studied under professor's and professional musicians, Joe Ferry, Jim McElwaine and Dary John Mizelle.
In reviews Ian is consistantly compared to Jeff Buckley, R.E.M. front man Michael Stipe and his idol Bob Dylan. [4]
He was recently mentioned in The Daily News Gatecrasher section, being spotted out with Lindsay Lohan and John Mayer.[5]
Ian was featured in an article in The Village Voice titled, “The Reemergence of the New York Singer/Songwriter,” in which he was described as, "... one of New York's best kept secrets.”
Ian is currently working with Poker Pro Kenna James on a music event to raise funds for Smile Train, a charity that helps children all over the world born with cleft lips and palate. The event is to take place in Las Vegas, Summer 2010.
