Album Notes
Contender is the latest album by David Bloom (Composer) and Cliff Colnot (Producer/Arranger), marking the 20th anniversary of their collaboration. David Bloom recently received the “Jazz Educator of the Year” Award 2017 from the Jazz Institute of Chicago, and is the Director of the nationally recognized Bloom School of Jazz in Chicago, serving the city for over 42 years. His students range from talented youth to Grammy winners.

Cliff Colnot is a distinguished conductor, musician, and arranger. He has conducted for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s MusicNOW series, the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, and the International Contemporary Ensemble, among others. He has arranged many classical pieces and his orchestration of Duke Ellington’s "New World Coming" was premiered by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. In addition to writing film scores and arrangements for rock, pop, and jazz artists, he has served as a bassoonist for the Lyric Opera Orchestra of Chicago, Music of the Baroque, and the Contemporary Chamber Players.

About David Bloom and the Bloom School of Jazz:
The 38th Anniversary of the Bloom School of Jazz was marked by the Cool Heat Concert, which aired on which aired on WTTW Television in Chicago. Bloom has interviewed Studs Terkel and others as part of the ongoing documentary What Is Soul?

The mission of Bloom School of Jazz in Chicago is to stimulate and nurture expression, imagination, and individuality through music. In addition to founding the Bloom School of Jazz, Bloom studied with blues-guitar icon Buddy Guy, noted jazz guitarist Reggie Boyd and flautists Joe Kainz and Chris Hinze. His book reviews and articles have appeared in the Chicago Tribune and numerous music publications. He has also taught at Northwestern University, Roosevelt University and United States Air Force Reserve Band, as well as presenting regional workshops.
