Album Notes
Blue Moon Cowgirls - I Love You Honey

In 1999 three friends gathered in Takoma Park, Maryland, just outside Washington, DC, to share their love of traditional country music and vocal harmony. The music they made sounded so good that they decided to move it from the living room onto the stage. So they drafted a lead guitarist to fill out their sound, came up with a name for the band, and rustled up a few gigs.

Since then, the Blue Moon Cowgirls have earned a loyal following in the mid-Atlantic region for their shimmering harmonies, their selection of classic but not overdone material, their sparse and flexible instrumentation, and their down-to-earth stage presence. With a repertoire that encompasses bluegrass, ballads, old-time gospel, country swing, and honky-tonk shuffles, the Blue Moon Cowgirls pay tribute to the full spectrum of country music, while creating a sound that is distinctly their own. They invite you to settle back and make yourself right at home with it!

Karen Collins comes by her twang honestly. A real coal miner’s daughter, and a prolific songwriter, she grew up listening to country music on the radio in southwestern Virginia. She also performs honky-tonk music with the Backroads Band, and Cajun music with Squeeze Bayou.

Ann Porcella learned all about harmony by singing, along with her large family in the Illinois and Iowa churches where her father was pastor. A devotee of old-time mountain music, Ann often leads traditional gospel sings at festivals in the mid-Atlantic region.

Lynn Healey has been a Cowgirl since 2006, when she replaced original member Dana Ward. As a child in Washington, DC, she learned about harmony by singing with her sisters and her father, and is a veteran of Washington’s bluegrass scene. In addition to performing with the Cowgirls, Lynn sings and plays guitar with the bluegrass band Rockledge.

Ira Gitlin, a native of New York City, is an award-winning multi-instrumentalist and teacher with a background in bluegrass, western swing, and other roots styles. He has performed with artists ranging from the Johnson Mountain Boys to Peter “P.D.Q. Bach” Schickele. In 1993 Ira was a one-day winner on Jeopardy!
