Album Notes
Blue Muse is, true to their name, an enigma. They specialize in playing Jazz in church, weaving spiritual improvisations through the waves of liturgy and biblical readings to congregations of any denomination. Their first release, "Blue Muse Live" released on the Dolphinium Records Label, includes four original songs and three original arrangements.

The album makes the group difficult to categorize: with tracks that combine elements of swing, latin, funk, straight, and modern jazz. On the funk track "They Say," Pianist Jonah Pierre weaves a delicate piano riff around a minimalist backdrop of vibes and percussion, evoking a sparse yet intense atmosphere. Guitarist Jarrett Carter's lyrical piece, "Bachionda," started off organically as a simple improvisation. The finished track builds from a single guitar line into a wall of sound that comes crashing down. Saxaphonist Sarah Lee arranged two Jazz standards including "Smile" as well as the hymn "Blessed Assurance," a wildly popular standard in their Vespers set. Vibraphonist/percussionst Tony Steve also contributes with his arrangement of "Icarus," setting the tune in a new rhythmic framework that provides a new and vibrant context for the haunting melodies.
