Album Notes
Simple Things is an album written over several seasons of life. Some songs are new, some written over many years. Each song has a story or two to go with it. I have written songs ever since I was in junior high school. I started to observe those around me, and wrote about what I saw them experience. I was asked in college to write a song for a local Alateen group, and learned about them. I got frustrated one day that a friend teased me about being a rock and roll star. I struggle as others do, with reconciling biblical counsel into daily life. I have very patriotic feelings. I work hard to balance the concepts I want to live by, day by day. I value family. I always have several songs I seem to be working on at a time. There is nothing more relaxing than playing a guitar and singing. There are few things more satisfying than accomplishing a feeling or expression with lyric and music, and bringing others along for the ride.
1. The National Anthem: I have always wanted to sing this - 12 String guitar is perfect for this song, acoustically
2. America The Beautiful: My patriotic side.......
3. Simple Things: Written when everything was more simple, and I knew it would not stay that way.
4. Country Boy: Written when I was wondering how I should move forward musically
5. Phillipians I: From the text - for dear friends
6. Stars: Written gazing up and describing the wonder of the twinkle twinkle....
7. Let's Get Away: Vacations are few and far between, and one must make the most of them!
8. Alateen Song: I was blessed to get to know this group, and learn about their struggles and challenges.
9. Carolina Girl: for Brittany, my daughter. One of the two life long loves in my life.
10. All You Have For Me: One of my favorites, as it came at a time I was figuring out God was really in control. Really.
11. Romans 8:38: I sang this chorus with my church congregation after 911. This song came at a time it was needed.
12. Secret of Life: Sorry James, respectfully, the secret of life is not enjoying the passing of time.
13. 12-1-2014: Biographical. Humbling. I felt so totally helpless, and so totally cared for, all at the same time. God is good.
14. The Lord's Prayer: One of my favorites, that I do not get to sing often enough.
15. Silent Night: Merry Christmas!
