Album Notes
Bobby Stewart’s music incorporates a wide range of stylistic elements and has been described by critics as “unique” and “original.”

Stewart began his performing and recording career playing with various groups around the New York City area. One of his bands - Bobby Stewart and The I.D.'s - developed a large and loyal following playing at such legendary venues as CBGB and Max’s Kansas City. As a solo artist he recorded the original version of “Copyright On Love” (which appears on "Before Now") on independent label, S.O.S Records. Having received positive reviews and reaching top positions on many regional charts, he then signed with Warner Bros. Records who released a re-recorded version of “Copyright” which made a strong showing on the Billboard charts. Other successful recordings include "Bottom Of The Drum" and "Dark Side Of Love" which were also released on S.O.S Records and received heavy rotation airplay in a number of markets (both tracks are also included on "Before Now").

Through the years Stewart has worked with many great musicians and singers on his various projects and recordings, including members of The Psychedelic Furs and Buzzcocks, The Roches and Chris Botti, et al.

Among his many projects, Stewart was one of the original participants in the "Loser's Lounge" - a highly acclaimed series of songwriter tributes that continues to be performed in venues around New York City - and was also invited by the Woody Guthrie Foundation to create music for, and perform in concert, previously unrecorded lyrics written by Woody Guthrie. Subsequently, his band Bobby Stewart & The Contraires contributed a track entitled “Happy Holiday” to the “Holiday Heart” benefit CD.

Most recently, Stewart took on the role of Executive Producer for “The Common Thread” by The Keith Reid Project (Rockville Records). The CD is a collection of songs that Reid had written outside of his work with Procol Harum (“A Whiter Shade Of Pale”- the most played song in the United Kingdom in the last 75 years) and features vocal performances by artists such as John Waite, Terry Reid and Southside Johnny, among others.
