ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
With dazzling virtuosity and resourceful and innovative stylings on guitar and mandolin, Bob performs an eclectic blend of original and traditional music drawing on many styles, including gospel, bluegrass, jazz, Celtic, blues and traditional folk.  His latest CD, “Satisfied Mind”, features Bob on acoustic guitar together with legendary blues harp player James Montgomery, guitarist Lincoln Meyers of The New England Bluegrass Band, and Todd McKinney on bass. His CD of original instrumentals titled "Star of the Sea" includes the electric version of “Transfiguration” with the slide guitar of the late Rod Price, founding member of the rock group, Foghat. Both releases are available for purchase through CD Baby.
Born north of Boston, Massachusetts, Bob began his musical career in New York and Boston/Cambridge area coffeehouses and college concerts in the late 1960s.  In addition to his solo career, he has shared the stage with founding member of the Jefferson Airplane, Jorma Kaukonen, Bonnie Raitt, The Everly Brothers, Pentangle, Tim Hardin, John Prine, Neil Young, Buddy Miles, Taj Mahal, Dion, Leo Kottke, Livingston Taylor, Steve Goodman, Jay Leno, Jerry Jeff Walker, and many others.  As a free-lance guitarist and mandolinist, he has performed on stage with Tommy Makem, Nanci Griffith, Larry Coryell, Mary Travers, and Tom and Harry Chapin (at Gerde’s Folk City in New York City),  among others.  He has appeared on recordings with Columbia artists  John Compton of Appaloosa, Eugene Friesen of the Paul Winter Consort and Bill Staines.

Quoting from the entertainment newspaper, Variety, of his solo performance at the legendary Greenwich Village folk club, Gerde’s Folk City “. . . His work on six-string acoustic guitar stands out. . . . McCarthy does one tune in ragtime style and as with the jazz material, seems unhampered by delivering solo stylings usually associated with combos.”

"….The CD is incredible! Man, he’s good. I do love Whisky Before Breakfast.
He’s got my Grammy vote….. and not to mention the artwork..."
Christine A. Kennedy

Dear Bob
I did get your CD and I loved it. If there were any justice in this world
you'd be a well known Big Dog.

and current member of the band "Hot Tuna")

Satisfied Mind by Bob McCarthy

Satisfied Mind
Bob McCarthy is an outstanding guitarist. It is clearly showed on this album where he is playing songs from different genres. His playing style is a mixture of Blues, Ragtime, Jazz, Swing and Folk music. He masters them all with brilliance. He appears to be relaxed when playing and singing a song. Even if it is an up-tempo tune, he knows exactly what he is doing. He has a playful and bouncy guitar style with a lot of variations that makes the tunes more interesting to the listener. One tune can contain finger picking, slide, strumming the strings, riffs and solos, all with a good arrangement. He is a good singer and he has a pleasant singing voice that is suitable for all genres. Bob is also playing Autoharp on some tunes. Being so ingenious he can’t be anything else but a master in his trade. Other musicians on this album are: James Montgomery on harmonica. Lincoln Meyers on guitar and Todd McKinney on Bass and without these fine musicians the album would not have been this good.
