Album Notes
"Trajetótias" (2016) is Maurício de Souza’s new album, featuring his Brazilian jazz group, Bossa Brasil®.

The live recording consists of nine tracks of arrangements of compositions by Tom Jobim, Milton Nascimento, Hermeto Pascoal, and Pat Metheny.

The group is a quiartet/quintet with Maurício de Souza on drums, Dmitry Baevsky on alto sax, Jerry Weir on vibraphone, Bob Rodriguez on keyboard, and Gary Mazzaroppi on acoustic bass.

The tracks feature Bossa Novas, Sambas, and Baiãos, in medium, slow, and fast tempos. The music is soothing, exciting, and energetic, taking the listener on a journey through the rhythms and melodies of Brazil.

Track descriptions:

1. Vivo Sonhando (Tom Jobim) – This classic Bossa Nova is performed in a quartet format with Maurício de Souza on drums, Dmitry Baevsky on alto sax, Jerry Weir on vibraphone, and Gary Mazzaroppi on acoustic bass. Solos by Baevsky, Weir, and de Souza.

2. Bebê (Hermeto Pascoal) – This track is a Baião, performed in a quintet format with Maurício de Souza on drums, Dmitry Baevsky on alto sax, Jerry Weir on vibraphone, Bob Rodriguez on keyboard, and Gary Mazzaroppi on acoustic bass. Solos by Baevsky, Weir, and Rodriguez.

3. Fotografia (Tom Jobim) – This is a slow Bossa Nova, performed in a quartet format with Maurício de Souza on drums, Dmitry Baevsky on alto sax, Jerry Weir on vibraphone, and Gary Mazzaroppi on acoustic bass. Solos by Baevsky, Weir, and de Souza. Solos by Mazzaroppi and Weir.

4. Red Blouse (Tom Jobim) – This track is an exciting Bossa Nova performed in a quartet format with Maurício de Souza on drums, Dmitry Baevsky on alto sax, Jerry Weir on vibraphone, and Gary Mazzaroppi on acoustic bass. Solos by Mazzaroppi, Weir, and Baevsky.

5. Vera Cruz (Milton Nascimento) – This fiery track is a classic Baião by Milton Nascimento performed in a quintet format with Maurício de Souza on drums, Dmitry Baevsky on alto sax, Jerry Weir on vibraphone, Bob Rodriguez on keyboard, and Gary Mazzaroppi on acoustic bass. Solos by Weir, Baevsky, Rodriguez, and de Souza.

6. Spring Ain’t Here (Pat Metheny) – This is a soothing tune performed in a quartet format with Maurício de Souza on drums, Dmitry Baevsky on alto sax, Jerry Weir on vibraphone, and Gary Mazzaroppi on acoustic bass. Solos by Weir, and Baevsky.

7. Caminhos Cruzados (Tom Jobim) – This track is lovely, slow Bossa Nova performed in a quartet format with Maurício de Souza on drums, Dmitry Baevsky on alto sax, Jerry Weir on vibraphone, and Gary Mazzaroppi on acoustic bass. Solos by Mazzaroppi, Baevsky, and Weir.

8. Chovendo Na Roseira (Tom Jobim) – This lovely Jobim Waltz is performed in a quintet format with Maurício de Souza on drums, Dmitry Baevsky on alto sax, Jerry Weir on vibraphone, Bob Rodriguez on keyboard, and Gary Mazzaroppi on acoustic bass. Solos by Rodriguez, Baevsky, and Weir.

9. Inútil Paisagem – This pulsating Samba is performed in a quartet format with Maurício de Souza on drums, Dmitry Baevsky on alto sax, Jerry Weir on vibraphone, and Gary Mazzaroppi on acoustic bass. Solos by Weir, Baevsky, and de Souza.

10. Introductions – De Souza introduces the group and thanks the audience for sharing such a special night with him and the group.
