Album Notes
This latest record from Bow Thayer and Perfect Trainwreck was born in July of 2009 at Levon Helm's Barn in Woodstock, NY. It is a true sibling to the first and eponynmous Perfect Trainwreck album in that it was recorded pretty much the same way - live! - and at the same studio. As before, the whole band performed each song all together start to finish in the same room under the watchful ear of producer/engineer Justin Guip. You could say it was done "old school". The only difference was that this time around the band allowed for some vocal overdubs that were engineered by Ben Grotto at Mad Oak Studios in Allston, Massachusetts.

"Buffalo Joe", a song alluding to Joseph Campbell and an urgent plea for a modern mythology, was the first song recorded and the working title up until a few months ago. But after hearing viewing the inspirational album art that was created by Portland, Oregon's Alexis Mollomo while listening to the completed record, we changed the name to the "Bottom of the Sky".

That title represents where the band is now: planting our roots and establishing a foundation but also accepting that the sky is the limit and that we are at a new beginning. The record shows how grounded the band has become stylistically while also opening the doors to new possibilities in music to come. The band had a wonderful experience making this record, every step of the way was an almost effortless joy, and we hope you will get that sense when you listen.
