Album Notes
...sublime honesty, ginger-laced vocals, honey-dipped melodies, with a twist of lemon sunshine...

Indie Folk songstress Ange Boxall, born in Tasmania, Australia, is now based in London, UK.

Often compared to Joni Mitchell and Jewel and KD Lang, Ange's contemporary acoustic songs deliver strong yet soothing melody with honest lyrical appeal.

She regularly performs live at high-profile London venues such as the Borderline, 12 Bar Club, Cobden Club, Spitz Bar, Kashmir Klub and Bedford Arms.

Ange has now finished recording her latest 12 track album ' Release ', produced by Will Worsley (Yusef Islam, Obi, Sasoto) at Faraway Sound in Westbourne Park, London.

Her musical entourage on both the new album 'Release' and at live performances includes Al Mobbs on Double Bass (David Gray, Gorillaz), Nick Holland on Cello (Sky Edwards, David Byrne, Ilya, Myleene Klass, The Divine Comedy) Mike Reed on Drums (Prodigy) and Tom Worsley on guitars (Obi).

Ange Boxall

They say that the music you enjoy as a teenager is what you will enjoy for the rest of your life. For me that is Traditional Jazz (see, Merseybeat and English Folk. I find the contemporary music (and it is debatable if some of it can in truth be called such) does not appeal. Young female singer/songwriters are two a penny and all look and sound as if they have come off the same production line.
So, why did I buy this album by singer/songwriter Ange Boxall?
Well, as an ex-pat Englishman living in New Zealand, I get nostalgic from time to time and trawl Web sites connected to my old stamping grounds. Lo & behold I came across an advert for a gig by Ange. Seeing as we would be distantly related (spelling variations of our name is common and our family is quite small) I went & had a look at her own Web site and watched a video clip. I rather liked what I heard, called the wife in to watch and she insisted that I tried to get a CD by Ange.
I did get the CD and here I am reviewing it.
I amazed myself by loving it. My very, very distant cousin has an interesting voice, and she writes songs with lyrics worth listening to. I am especially taken with both lyrics and tune on ‘Bigger Picture’ and ‘A Simple Life’ and I love the vocal technique she uses on part of ‘Just Too Cool’ where her voice literally shivers..
A CD that can be very pleasant background that even an old fogie like me can enjoy and a CD that you can sit and listen too in detail. Excellent.

It's poetry. Magical. Stunning vocal range with such maturity. I absolutely love it and cannot recommend this artist highly enough
