Album Notes
Polish Youngstown was written by Polka Hall of Famer Mike Matousek and the incomparable "Mazurka Al" Puwalski. Mike and Al, along with Polka Hall of Famer Frank Liszka, have teamed up to create a number of hits by The Boys. This particular song was inspired by the efforts of the Polish Youngstown organization in keeping Polish traditions alive and encouraging Polish-Americans to rediscover their roots. Mike, Al, Frank, and Jeff Yash all played together in the The Boys in the mid to late 1980s. With the addition of polka veterans Mike Evan and Dave Morris, the band has regrouped and just released a new CD, "A New Day," their first new album release in 22 years. Polish Youngstown is The Boys' first single release. Mike, who was inducted into the Polka Music Hall of Fame in 2008, has helped form, lead, and perform with top polka bands that include The Brass Works, The Boys, Charm City Sound, Full Circle and many others over the last 40 years. He's been featured on over 20 polka albums and appeared with The Boys in the major motion picture, "He Said, She Said" with Kevin Bacon. In addition to leading today's version of The Boys, he also tours with Full Circle, co-hosts an Internet polka/variety show with Mike Ziemski called "The Mikes Are On!, and co-promotes a four-day polka festival with Mike Ziemski called Polkamotion by the Ocean every September in Rehoboth Beach, DE.
